Nearly eighty rivers in China have over-warning floods

Chinese media reported that China is about to enter the main flood season next week, while many southern regions have already experienced five heavier rains this month, and nine provinces and 79 rivers across the country have now experienced flooding above warning levels.

CNN reports that southern China has experienced several heavy rains this month. Some areas in Zhejiang, Hunan and Guizhou have received 15 to 20 days of rain, with one or two times more rainfall than in the same period of the year, while heavy rainfall is expected in the next four days in southern and northern China.

Data from China’s Ministry of Water Resources showed that as of Thursday, 79 rivers across the country had exceeded warning floods, with the entire Xiang River in the Dongting Lake system exceeding the warning level. CCTV news quoted officials from the Ministry of Water Resources as saying that the water level of rivers in the south is gradually rising and is higher than the same period of the year, and that authorities should pay attention to floods in small and medium-sized rivers and reservoirs, as well as flash floods, among others.
