Kan concluded his visit to Vietnam and exchanged 12 memoranda of cooperation.

Visiting Japanese Prime Minister Kan Yoshihide held talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Hanoi on July 19, confirming cooperation for a free and open Indo-Pacific and the exchange of 12 memoranda of cooperation between Japanese and Vietnamese officials and citizens.

During the summit meeting, the Japanese side agreed to provide assistance for flooding in central Vietnam, and to share information and knowledge on land resilience.

The two heads of state also agreed on the substance of military cooperation, and the two sides exchanged 12 memorandums of understanding on cooperation, including those on urban development in Ho Chi Minh City, cooperation between the Ministry of Justice of Japan and the Ministry of Justice of Vietnam, and cooperation on the construction of dumps in Sumitomo Corporation Vietnam and Hinh An Province in northern Vietnam.

The two sides also agreed to lift the ban on the export of Japanese mandarins to Vietnam, and agreed to realize this agreement as soon as possible.

In a speech at the Japan-Vietnam University in Hanoi on the afternoon of the 19th, Kan said that Japan will promote the resilience of its supply chain and will further promote cooperation with ASEAN in order to build an Asian economy that is strong enough to respond to the crisis.

Japanese Prime Minister Kan Yoshihide concluded his visit to Vietnam on March 20, departing from Hanoi’s Nai Pai International Airport and arriving at Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, where he will hold talks with President Sacco in Bogor, a city south of Jakarta.
