Gunfire breaks out between Burmese government forces and local armed forces on the border between China and Myanmar

An exchange of fire between Burmese security forces and a minority popular armed group broke out at dawn on the 23rd, in the town of Muse, close to the China-Burma border.

Reuters news agency said Sunday that the gun battle took place in the Burmese town of Muse. The report quoted Burmese media Khit Thit Media and Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) as saying that the shootout began around dawn on the 23rd.

Muse is said to be one of Myanmar’s main border crossing points to China. Reuters said the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) also attacked a Burmese military post in the northwest, about 320 kilometers from Muse, closer to the Indian border, on the 22nd.
