Where is the missing money leopard in Hangzhou?

The ancient Chinese say that when a country is about to fall, there will be demons. It means that before the fall of the regime or the collapse of society, there will always be all kinds of strange and weird events. I don’t know if the COVID-19 virus counts, but if it does, this demon will have too much impact, and it will not be the death of the country, but the death of the planet or the death of humanity.

However, if we only look at mainland China, there have been many strange events recently.

On May 18, Beijing time, Shenzhen’s iconic skyscraper, the Saige Building, experienced significant vibrations, and thousands of people inside the building flocked out and fled the building. The building was completed in 1999 and is over 340 meters tall, with 79 floors, 75 above ground and 4 underground, and a total floor area of 170,000 square meters. Chinese construction experts conducted an emergency investigation into the building, but without any clear results. 19, the Sage Tower swayed again in the afternoon and people inside the building had a distinct feeling.

Some Chinese media said that this Saige Building has swayed before, and in fact the authorities have investigated, but never found the cause. Some mainland experts estimate (note that it is an analysis and estimate, not a definite result) that it is possible that the frequency of the wind on that day and the building matched, so the building swayed. I do not understand what the concept of “the frequency of the wind and the frequency of the building match” is, but this statement is not a clear conclusion.

Since science can not give a clear explanation, then we will look at other claims. Shenzhen Sage Building is located in Huaqiang North, Shenzhen, is almost built up against Hong Kong. In Hong Kong’s New Territories, Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai area, the skyline is the most conspicuous is this Saige Building. Hong Kong is a place where feng shui is prevalent. I once met a feng shui master who said that artificial buildings should not destroy the skyline, otherwise they will destroy feng shui. The so-called skyline is a glance over the boundary between the sky and the earth. Since he said that, I have really observed carefully, Hong Kong island skyscrapers, if you look from this side of Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, really and the back of the Pacific Ocean, the mountain peak is high, the building below is also high, so look far away, basically the skyline or the original mountain range to form the line.

According to feng shui masters, the skyline is determined by the mountain range, which is the so-called “dragon line”. As the Chinese know, the dragon line in feng shui determines the prosperity and decline of an area. Most of the city buildings in mainland China, regardless of this feng shui problem, the Sage Building is standing extremely abruptly on the border between China and Hong Kong. If the swaying of the building is really caused by the wind, and this feng shui said also coincides, because “wood in the forest, the wind will destroy”, the building is too much higher than the surrounding terrain, probably the wind will not let it go.

In fact, a few days ago, there was another strange incident in mainland China. Three leopards escaped from the zoo in Hangzhou and have been strolling around the city for more than 20 days, and one of them is still missing.

The story is that on April 19, three underage leopards escaped from the management of Hangzhou’s zoo “Wildlife World” because of negligence. On May 7 and 8, Hangzhou residents reported finding leopards in the woods, and there was more than one person who reported the sighting. Nowadays, everyone has a cell phone, so when they encounter such things, they must take photos and videos online, and soon everyone knows about it. Hangzhou is one of China’s top tier cities, and the discovery of a wild leopard in a large city of several million people is an unimaginable event, so everyone focused their questions on the zoo, also known as this Wildlife World.

Wildlife World quickly issued a statement saying that no leopard escaped. So, where did the leopard come from, it became a big problem, if not the zoo ran out, then it was the “foreign forces”, from the outside mountains. After a few days, because it was so unbelievable, Wildlife World finally admitted that there were a total of three immature leopards, which ran away on April 19.

The authorities then mobilized to capture the immature money leopards. Soon, one leopard was captured and the other was “bitten to death” by hounds, and there is video evidence of this. Four large dogs surrounded the leopard and kept biting it, and the people next to it said “bitten to death” several times. This video has caused a lot of controversy, because the leopard is China’s first-class protected animals, the zoo so let the dog bite to death, causing many people dissatisfied.

The official media then came out to clarify that the leopard had not been killed, and that the fallen leopard had only been hit by anaesthetic gunfire.

But the third leopard could not be found. Ten days have passed since the two leopards were captured, and this other money leopard is nowhere to be found. If we count from April 19 to escape from the zoo, thirty days have passed, leaving this one leopard completely missing.

So there are two major questions about the whole incident. First, why does the zoo deny that the leopard escaped? Second, where did the third leopard go?

On the first point, Hangzhou Safari Park’s answer is that they denied that the three leopards ran out of the zoo because they were “worried about causing public panic”. This may be a ridiculous reason all over the world, but in mainland China, it is absolutely justified under the Chinese Communist regime. Because the official Chinese Communist Party has always done so. For example, COVID-19, the CCP virus (Wuhan virus, New Crown virus), was known by the authorities to be a new human-to-human and highly virulent virus by December 2019 at the latest, but it was never made public and continued to be concealed until mid-January 2020, causing an irreversible global catastrophe. The reason for the CCP’s concealment was “fear of causing panic.

This concealment was possible in the CCP system because the system had additional institutional remedies, such as media control, lack of judicial independence, and a strengthened authoritarian administrative system. Simply put, concealing the truth is not only lying, but also having the ability to prevent others from revealing the truth, that is, controlling all news media and online platforms, even the possibility of blocking everyone from speaking, using dictatorial means if you tell the truth, and also monopolizing all laws; if the lie really has serious repercussions, the authoritarian system can also take categorical measures to seal off the city and carry out the so-called total quarantine program, where no one can leave the room.

None of these measures can be realized in a democratic society, so in a democratic society, lying to cover up the truth, the liar will pay a big price, but in the CCP, lying also pays a price, but it is not the liar who pays the price, not the group of people who cover up the truth, but the ordinary people, whether you believe these lies or not, as long as you are an ordinary person and not a powerful person, you will pay the price.

I am afraid that the main reason for Hangzhou Wildlife World to cover up the truth and then deny that a leopard has run away is not because they are afraid of causing panic, but because they don’t want the authorities to know and be held accountable. This is similar to how the Chinese Communist Party is now trying to deny the Chinese Communist virus.

The second question is: Where did the third leopard go? In my opinion, we still need to analyze this system in terms of “Chinese characteristics”. The leopard is a first-class protected animal in China, so when the video of the second leopard being “bitten to death” by a hunting dog came to light, not only were netizens angry, but it probably triggered protests from animal protection groups and even animal protection agencies to pursue the case. In my opinion, the most likely scenario is that the authorities will once again deny that the leopard is dead and that they let the hounds bite and kill a juvenile leopard, which is a protected animal at the national level.

The money leopard, a feline native to mainland China, has two or three species of native leopards in China. The earth leopard, as we generally call it, is the mountain leopard, slightly smaller in size and brownish-gray in color. The money leopard, on the other hand, has golden fur, dotted with black spots, and is slightly larger, with the adult money leopard being about 150 kilograms. This animal used to be plentiful in China, but later, along with the tiger, it was eliminated by the Communist Party as an enemy. In the 1950s, after the establishment of the Chinese Communist Party, they wanted to restore agriculture and encouraged people to open up the land for farming. In the more densely populated areas of East and South China, large-scale land clearing meant cutting down trees to make fields, which resulted in direct competition with wild animals. At that time, the South China tiger and the leopard in South China were at the top of the food chain in the wild world, and with fewer wild animals, the tiger and leopard had to go down to the mountains to find food.

In the last century, about 56 or 57, there was something like this in Hunan province, saying that the tigers surrounded the village and many livestock were eaten, and people were also eaten. So the authorities organized militias to fight tigers, real tigers, not corrupt officials, and killed hundreds of them a year, and they were even publicized in the newspapers. By the 1980s and 1990s, the wild South China tiger in China was basically extinct, so to speak. The situation of leopards in China is similar, of course leopards are smaller and generally less likely to attack humans, but wild leopards are also very rare. So by 1994, China declared the money leopard to be a Class I state protected animal.

Hangzhou Wildlife World, if you let a dog bite a first class state protected animal, and still a small leopard, which at that time was not any threat to people, this is likely to cause trouble. Therefore, the third leopard must be “missing”.

Mainland China is now the most heavily monitored country in the world, especially in the developed eastern regions, with all kinds of surveillance equipment, houses and roads are full of surveillance cameras, and rural areas are no exception. I remember a BBC journalist who tried his luck and was found by the authorities somewhere within 7 minutes.

Of course, leopards don’t speed on the roads or pass by on major traffic routes without any problem.

However, the three money leopards are only 2 years old, born inside a zoo and raised on artificial feed. Therefore, they may not be too hostile to humans and may not avoid crowds. Hangzhou is the most economically developed region in China with a huge population density, how many wild animals can be found in the nearby mountains and forests for this leopard to survive? Besides, this little leopard has never had any experience in hunting in the wild. The biggest possibility for it to survive is to head to the rural homes and catch those poultry or domestic animals. It is easy to be spotted or caught on surveillance cameras. If so, how did this one 2-year-old money leopard remain missing for 30 days?

So the most likely scenario is that all three leopards have actually been captured, but one of them died, and in order to deny getting a protected animal killed at the national level, or not wanting to cause public anger, they turned this one, which was dead, into a missing one. If there is no pressure, this one leopard is missing; if there is too much pressure, buy one back after some time, then announce that they have caught it, get a family photo of the three leopards, and the whole thing will end successfully.

I must admit that I don’t have any evidence, it’s purely inference plus speculation. Please forgive me for this, because when dealing with the CCP, you have to have a very strong imagination, you cannot be limited by general human behavior patterns, and you have to understand this very special organization and group of the CCP, only then you will not be fooled and fooled.
