The “failed” escape of four acrobatic teenagers

Jing Xin Yu: This is an attempt to go home to escape brings all sorts of ludicrous results: a fake school, a lot of suffering and a lot of effort to walk more than 40 kilometers in the opposite direction from home, and finally the real, home.

Escape

It was dark and the time to escape had come. Those most important things were discussed in the afternoon. Escape bag: shoes, a set of clothes and pants, some socks and underwear, a cup of water, two school bags; time to escape: to move at night after the teacher Cao’s family went to sleep; escape group: Hua Zi and Xiang Zi brothers are rich in escape experience, so they decided to take a “novice” each, 15-year-old Hua Zi and 14-year-old Xin Xin group, 12-year-old Xiangzi and 11-year-old Xiaohao group; escape money: 100 yuan per group.

At seven or eight o’clock in the evening, the four acrobatic boys practiced as usual. Perhaps because the escape is imminent, they decided to practice only the simplest straw hat dance, several people will take turns to throw the straw hat out, and then by the next person to catch, repeated cycles. They paid careful attention to the movement outside. Around 10:30 p.m., Mr. Cao went out and his wife was sleeping inside. It was now that they put on their slippers, took their garbage bags, carried their school bags, closed the door of the house they lived in, and told Mr. Cao’s wife that they were going downstairs to take out the garbage.

Since April 20, they have been living in a small bedroom in Mr. Cao’s house, with bunk beds placed next to each other for them to sleep on. The children are from the rural areas of Dafang County, Bijie, Guizhou, and attend an acrobatics school in Hebei, where they have been enrolled for less than a year, and were driven to Chengdu by the person in charge to perform.

Nine days into the show, they thought they had to run away. No breakfast to eat – Xin Xin, who was later the first to be found, said that the practice was bitter, and sometimes it was already early in the morning after the performance, and came back to practice. Every day to do 200 push-ups, the performance was smashed to do 500. “The night let us practice handstand,” said Xiaohao.

They have performed at a funeral, with a coffin, a hearse, someone burning incense, the people underneath one second they were crying, the next second they were laughing, “the face can change really fast”, the children thought.

When you perform well, people at the bottom of the stage applaud, and when you miss, people still applaud, “it’s awkward, it feels like you’re being laughed at,” Hua Zi said. Losing your dignity is harder than practicing hard and performing at a funeral. The children said the tall, strong Mr. Cao scolded them in a loud voice at the slightest misstep in the performance, while he was very gentle with his own daughters. When the performance was successful, they were only ever rewarded with an apple. Hua Zi had seen the image of Mr. Cao collecting money after the performance, which made him feel that he was just a tool used to make money. In the last performance before the escape, the children missed in doing the stomp, and Xinxin recalled Mr. Cao saying, “The more people act, the better they get, and you are the worse you get.” This made XinXin feel unfair and humiliated.

Fortunately, at this moment, on the night of May 1, no one was stopping them. After the elevator went down to the garage instead of the first floor – they were only familiar with the underground because they went out to perform in Mr. Cao’s car every day – Hua Zi, the oldest, suddenly remembered something and asked his partner, who was the last to go out, if the lights were off. After getting a negative answer, he returned alone to turn off the lights. Later he could not say why he did so. After gathering again, the children spent about five minutes feeling their way from the basement to the entrance of the neighborhood, and the air of freedom came over them.

It was early summer in Chengdu, and they were in a quiet residential area between the second and third ring roads in the northeast, the streets almost deserted at a glance except for a few ladies walking their dogs who occasionally passed by. Their plan about grouping was correct, and at the moment even just two children walking side by side was very conspicuous.

Police later retrieved surveillance showed that they appeared immediately afterwards in a park near Chengdu University of Technology. According to the map, that is likely to be the Holy Light Park, the street lamps beside the street emitting dim light, the balsam fir trees emitting fragrance, the chirping of crickets in the grass and the roar of trucks driving by at regular intervals form a symphony belonging to the night.

Too late to feel the comfort of early summer, the children said goodbye to each other here and ran away in pairs.

Xiaohao and Xiangzi of the children’s group ran lifelessly for a while. Xiaohao is only 11 years old, about one meter two, with a pair of small eyes squinting into slits when he smiles. This is his first time in the city, and the tall buildings make him dizzy. Whenever he stopped, he always panicked and said to Xiangzi, this place they seem to have come before, it is possible to run back to Mr. Cao’s house. Xiangzi reassured him that it wouldn’t. He was a year older and taller than Xiaohao, and had a mole as big as a watermelon seed on the left side of his nose. He had followed his brother many times away from home to Bijie, which is the city. Therefore Xiangzi thinks he is familiar with the city, “it is the place with many tall buildings”.

The older children’s group, Xinxin and Huazi, showed some calmness, but that night, in line with the principle of “the farther away from Mr. Cao, the better”, the two groups of teenagers did not sleep easily. Unable to resist sleep, Xinxin and Huazi slept in a park, while Xiaohao and Xiangzi found a 23-story residential building, took the elevator to the top floor, and then climbed a ladder to the roof – an experience Xiangzi had previously learned in Bijie. Not long after sleeping (Xiangzi, who didn’t have a watch, thought it was about two hours), Xiaohao pushed Xiangzi awake, “It’s too close to Mr. Cao’s house,” he said. Xiangzi was speechless as they got up and set off again. In just one night, they stormed southwest for more than a dozen kilometers, all the way to Chunxi Road, Qing Shi Bridge, and near the intersection of Renmin South Road and First Ring Road.

When the sun came up, the adults’ world was already in chaos. 7 a.m. on May 2, Cao called the police. 11 a.m., Xinxin’s mother received a WeChat from the acrobatics school teacher asking if Xinxin had contacted her. she felt strange and asked the teacher if Xinxin was missing. The other party did not reply again. The children did not have cell phones, and the school had not previously informed parents of the trip to Chengdu. At about 11 p.m., Xinxin’s mother received a call from the Chengdu police, saying that Xinxin was missing along with three other boys.

The story gradually surfaced. Cao teacher called Cao Tao, is the head of Chengdu Wind Wings Culture Media Co., Ltd. due to “near May Day, more performances”, he paid the four children from Hebei Wuqiao Vocational Education Center to perform in Chengdu. According to the official notice issued by the People’s Government of Wuqiao County, Hebei, on April 20, the children were driven to Chengdu by Gao Wenjun, the head of the Variety Acrobatic Troupe, and from April 23 to May 1, they attended a total of 10 performances, each 20 minutes.

On the evening of May 6, the two older children were found, and at noon the next day, the group of children also ended their escape. Their backpacks were long gone, they hadn’t had a bath in almost a week, and their clothes were so dirty they couldn’t see what they were supposed to look like. Xiaohao’s legs were swollen, and his face was covered in mosquito bites from the park – they had never been so unkempt even in their rural home. The parents were incredulous and asked, “Where are you going? The children replied, “To walk back to Guizhou.”

Strange and heavy

The children’s escape was like a strange encounter, full of stories that were well-told but beyond expectation. For example, Xiangzi stared at the roadside and seriously recalled that when they were tired of walking, an unlocked shared bike suddenly appeared, and one person rode it, and one person walked away, and not long after, “Xiaohao glanced over and saw a second bike,” still unlocked.

Is it cold to sleep at night? No. Why? Xiaohao waved his arms and said, one day walking on the road, a red cloth suddenly appeared in front of them, at night, they covered with this red cloth to sleep, it is not cold.

The only 200 yuan they had was the pocket money left by Gao Wenjun, the head of the acrobatic school, and the children shared the savings equally without seriously calculating whether this money could support them to walk back to Guizhou. Projecting backwards from the results, they wandered for a total of five full days, so each person had to settle for three meals with 10 yuan a day, and the budget for each meal was more than 3 yuan.

The first night, the children’s group was afraid to go to the supermarket to buy food compelling, stay up until the morning to go to the supermarket, buy bread, water and sausages (and probably chips), eaten, or hungry. The chicken legs from the roadside stall were a good choice, two of them, “yummy”. Xiaohao’s eyes glanced at the ice-cream, little panda style, milk tea flavor, the day got hot and muggy, he wanted to eat, and bought another ice-cream. The first meal was over budget.

Xiaohao ate a bite of ice cream, icy cold, he asked Xiangzi, do you eat? “At that time he was too hot to eat”, Xiaohao recalled. Xiangzi shook his head. “I won’t go with you if you don’t eat,” Xiaohao threatened. Xiangzi only had to take a bite. Halfway through the meal, Xiaohao said he couldn’t eat anymore, and Xiangzi took another bite.

Early one morning after a rainstorm, they woke up in a gazebo in the park and an old grandfather appeared in front of them and asked: Why are you here? Xiangzi did not panic, said they live next to, out to play, it rained here to rest. “Be smart so he won’t suspect,” he smiled wryly at me, not forgetting to spit out a line about Xiaohao, “He’s stupidly standing there staring.”

They love the park and often stop in it, where there are all kinds of slides and free sports equipment, and kids with toy guns come to initiate conversations with them. The parents on the other side asked them, “Where are your parents? Xiangzi thought of his father in the countryside, and of course he couldn’t tell the truth, “My parents went to work.” He then casually pointed to the tall building next to him, “That’s where my family lives.” The adults said, “Later you can have your parents take you to another, bigger park to play, and he said, “Okay.

The escape of the older children’s group had no story, only non-stop walking and heaviness. Huazi and Xinxin also encountered small stores selling ice-cream, but the age difference of a few years has given them a measure of money, “a three dollar ice-cream can buy a bottle of water,” they held back. Water and that kind of bag of bread were their only expenses, and they ate one when they were hungry, and kept walking when they were done, not looking at the scenery, not talking to strangers, and rarely staying in one place. I asked them, “Is Chengdu fun?” and they all shook their heads.

Huazi remembered that they had stopped at a particularly large scenic spot, where there were many roller coaster-like rides. It was the holiday season, the park was crowded, and from time to time there were screams from tourists on the roller coaster, and they stood there, quietly watching, “Look don’t pay,” he said, and then continued on their way.

The world has unfolded in front of the eyes of several children in different styles. Xiangzi is lively and witty, Xiaohao is naive, and only when mentioned with Mr. Cao will unconsciously lower his head and pick his hand. Xinxin, on the other hand, kept his head down most of the time, and his biggest smile only moved the corners of his mouth, and Huazi acted very mature, but his words were helpless and reluctant.

Despite running away separately, the two groups of children shared a fear: being caught back by Mr. Cao. In the neighborhood, they observe the orientation of the cameras and try to go where the cameras do not shine. They all remembered the phone numbers of their families and Gao Wenjun, the head of the acrobatics group, but no one dialed them “for fear of being sent back.” The children’s group lost their backpacks, and the reason Xiangzi gave was that “the parents (they met on the road) always asked why they didn’t go to school,” while Xiaohao said, “That bag Mr. Cao knew.” No matter how far he goes, he is always worried about getting back to the starting point.

Acrobatics

What the children don’t know is that their families have been arriving in Chengdu one after another. Police, media, rescue teams, volunteers are all looking for them. The search notice was posted on the streets of Chengdu, and the photo on it was taken before going to Chengdu, with all four giving a thumbs up.

In Hebei Wuqiao Vocational Education Center, they are the four students who performed better in the acrobatics class. Although all came from Bijie Dafang County, the families did not know each other before. In the middle of last year, Gao Wenjun came to each rural area and promoted the benefits of the school to the parents: free study, room and board, and a job with a monthly salary of 4,000 yuan after five years of study. The contract signed by the parents shows that this is a group of free students for poverty alleviation, which also states in Article 5: Party B shall not withdraw or transfer to other groups during the study period, and if there is a breach of contract, shall pay economic compensation of 100,000 yuan to Party A. Huazi remembered that most of the students in the class came from Guizhou, with a small number from Henan and Yunnan.

For more than half a year since they enrolled last September (Huazi was October), they woke up at 5:30 every day to practice, sit-ups, cartwheels, finished breakfast at 7:00, practiced at 8:00 until 11:30, handstands, stomps, ballet on ice, lunch break ended at 1:30, then practiced until 6:00 p.m., and continued after dinner until 8:00. They spent one day a week on culture classes, only language, and they only experienced one exam without published results.

Huazi remembered that the second day of school, he began to practice handstand, then he could only hold on to a few dozen seconds, the teacher did not ask him to wait until the third or fourth day, “the teacher began to me this point, that point,” and finally “directly yelled, saying that I am not right, that is not right either “. Every day’s practice ended with a head full of sweat, and sometimes the hands really had no strength, and all of a sudden they let go of their strength, and people fell on the ground.

Acrobatic training has left its mark on their bodies. The dark knuckles were covered with thick calluses – they were worn out from propping up the ground with their hands when turning their heads, and if they had to practice the kind of kung fu that involves turning heads, the top of their heads would be worn off like Huazi, with a large chunk of hair. Learning to stomp people have to be pressed by a particularly heavy person first, to practice their leg strength, after several months of hard practice, the ultimate success depends on whether you and your partner can cooperate and trust each other. Xiangzi’s partner once broke his arm, rested for a week and came back, he could never do the action again, “he may have fallen out of the shadow.” There is a similar inversion action is Xiangzi and Huazi feel the most tired, a minute makes people sweat, but they often have to hold on for 7 or 8 minutes before being put down.

Acrobatic training has made their hands thickly calloused

Xiangzi could do a whole backflip – a move his brother couldn’t do. When I asked Xiangzi if he was proud of himself, he shook his head, “I can’t be proud, if I’m proud, I’ll back out of my work”, which he said he had learned on his own.

The teachers kept a very close eye on him, and if he was caught slacking off, he might be asked to double his practice. Often people would cry because the practice was too hard, they were scolded by the teacher, or they were homesick. The teachers told them to cry where no one could see them, so the sound of sobbing often came from the dormitory in the middle of the night. Whenever this happened, the other boys would gather together to comfort the crying boys.

The children do not have cell phones, and when they want to call their parents, they need to borrow the classroom teacher’s cell phone. The school stipulates that students cannot go home for five years, and parents can come to visit their children at school once a year, at the school’s expense. Xinxin’s mother, Wang Zhimin, went there once and watched Xinxin practice stomping through the glass window, and she couldn’t help but cry. Mother and son ate together, a peaceful, who did not say the bitter or not bitter. On the last day, Wang Zhimin woke up from the hotel, wanting to see her son one last time, the teacher advised her, “Do not go to school, then go you have to cry, forget it, do not go to see.” She was convinced.

“Jumping from one pit of fire to another”

The escape entered a period of exhaustion. From about May 4 or 5, Xinxin and Huazi could not walk, they did not change places again, but lived in the top floor of a tall building for two days. When the money ran out, they used the cups they brought with them to drink tap water in the public restroom. Huazi used his experience of running away from home in Bijie, and in the afternoon, he took Xinxin to the neighborhood dumpster to turn over other people’s leftover take-out, and that day, they ate a take-out with bad taste, with roast pork and vegetables.

One night, it was raining heavily in Chengdu, and the temperature at night dropped to a dozen degrees, and Xin Xin, who was wearing only a jacket, slept in the gazebo.

After accidentally breaking the water cup, they threw away the backpack containing their dirty clothes. Exhaustion overwhelmed them. On the night of May 6, the police found them. At that moment, their hearts were filled with fear again, and they thought they would be sent back to Mr. Cao’s house, or to the acrobatics school.

By this time, they had traveled more than 40 kilometers in the opposite direction from Guizhou.

The innocence and joy of the children’s group also faded away. The night before they were found, Xiangzi and Xiaohao had spent all their money. Hunger made them hide in a park and cry. on the morning of May 7, they had a fight, the reason for which is not even remembered, and in any case they separated. Xiangzi walked inside a neighborhood, where the police found him and took him to a roadside restaurant for a bowl of beef noodles, the best thing he had eaten in days. After eating, he took the police to drive together to find Xiaohao, not far, they saw Xiaohao was standing on the roadside, the car did not even stop, the police rushed down. After being taken to the car, Xiaohao still didn’t know what had happened.

After learning that her son was lost, Xiaohao’s mother Zhou Qingqin had called Cao Tao, hoping to get information on all the locations where the children had performed, “he said I don’t know, that attitude (bad), don’t know anything.”

Huazi Xiangzi brothers mentioned that during one performance, they found that the stage was slanted and there was no guardrail in front, which posed a great risk for them to perform the ice ballet. Once someone failed to lift, the one who fell down was very likely to fall below the stage. That time, all of them are extremely careful to do each action, “try to throw a little slower.” They mentioned this safety hazard to Cao Tao, “Boss Cao said that no matter what place or venue, you must finish the show for me.”

Cao Tao had denied all the allegations in an interview with Red Star News, including “no breakfast,” “doing 500 push-ups,” and “practicing until the early hours of the morning. And we didn’t get through to Cao Tao’s phone.

After picking up the children, several families did not stay too long in Chengdu, but drove back to Dafang County, Guizhou, where they have lived for generations. There, despite living in different villages, their homes were quite similar: a long walk up a mountain road to reach them, a two- or three-story house built by themselves, damp and dark, with little decent furniture and clothes piled haphazardly on beds or benches.

The children’s old home

Wang Zhimin has three children, the eldest daughter is already married and has children, the remaining two children are supported by her monthly income of 3,000 yuan from driving a lift at a construction site, she and her husband divorced last month. Zhou Qingqin and her husband work part-time at a local construction site, earning 4 or 5,000 yuan a month, and they also have three children. Huazi and Xiangzi’s father, Xiang Biyou, raised his four children by driving a van, and his ex-wife would pay him 1,000 yuan a month in alimony.

Xiang Biyou and his ex-wife used to work together in Hunan. When Huazi was 9 years old, Xiang Biyou’s mother fell ill and they returned to the village to take care of her. After her death, his ex-wife offered to go out to work and let him stay home alone to take care of the children, to which he agreed. The ex-wife never came back.

In the matter of children’s schooling, parents usually take an attitude of going with the flow, if they can continue to read, they borrow money to do so; if they can’t, they don’t force themselves to do so and go out to work. They have only attended elementary school for a few years, and do not have the ability or energy to tutor their children’s studies.

Xinxin remembered that when he was in the fifth grade, he suddenly felt that the math he liked became difficult, he couldn’t understand the lessons, and he couldn’t find anyone to turn to. His mother returned from the construction site at six o’clock every night, “she works every day, there is no time to take care of me”, the test, the results fell from eighty to ninety points to more than 50 points, he no longer like math.

Before going to learn acrobatics, Huazi had dropped out of school. He followed a car mechanic in town to learn how to repair cars, a year or two to get out of the master. Not long after that, he left home. He did not seem to have any real interest in anything to do for long, study mixed, tired of repairing cars, stay at home is not interesting, the result is that he left home again and again, as if addicted to general. The longest time, he and Xiangzi ran away for four months in Bijie, living on the roof of a building, living by collecting garbage every day. When I asked them why they had to leave home, Xiangzi gave the answer “home is too boring,” and Huazi thought for a long time did not give an answer, he kept his head down, repeatedly rubbing his hands, and finally, he said, “I feel a lack of communication with my father. “

Xiangzi and his father

Not long after Huazi went to repair the car, Gao Wenjun came to town to enroll and told him that learning acrobatics was much easier than repairing cars. These children are the “perfect” object that Gao Wenjun is looking for, and will be easily attracted by the conditions he offers: free acrobatics, five years after the completion of the study can find a job with a monthly salary of 4,000 yuan. The children also mentioned that the dazzling videos of acrobatics made them think that learning acrobatics would be a very interesting thing, and in order to learn acrobatics, Xin Xin almost quarreled with his mother and “had to go”, but finally his mother gave in.

The child was soon picked up, Zhou Qingqin did not even have time to think carefully, her husband told him that it was a school run by the state, certainly trustworthy. They hadn’t been to school much and couldn’t recognize all the words on the contract, so they hand-stamped the contract in a confused manner.

And at that time, Huazi, a new choice in front of him, that night, he lay in bed thinking for a long time, two sisters who need to go to school, every time before the start of school to go out to borrow money from his father, has gone to the acrobatics school brother. Finally he decided to go too. He later described the decision as, “jumping from one pit of fire to another.”

Parents sign a contract with Gao Wenjun

The dining table

The day I arrived at Xinxin’s home, he was taking a nap, having spent most of his day at home drowsing due to the exhaustion of running away. The small two-story building he lived in was at the entrance to the village, across from several acres of corn fields where the corn had just sprouted and the weeds were too late to get rid of due to days of crazy rain. The village is very quiet, most of the young people have gone out to work, leaving only the elderly sitting on the roadside.

In the silent village, Xinxin’s family became conspicuous because of the crowd gathering. After getting the news that he was lost, several female relatives of the family temporarily gave up their jobs and accompanied Wang Zhimin to Chengdu. After the child was picked up, they chose to stay for a few more days, despite the fear of work. They are watching XinXin grow up, the interview about the emotional place will shed tears, “(child) used to walk are pulling the wind, that mouth that really is, you want to scold him can with you chirp, chirp, especially lively, this time is you ask him ten sentences, he can not say a word.” They patiently cared for Xinxin who was quiet after returning home, took him to the hospital to see the rash on his body, and his sister bought him some new clothes. This child, who a few days ago was eating garbage, became the treasure of the family.

Xiaohao also had new clothes to wear. Their family is located in a Hmong village hidden deep in the mountains, with the house facing the green hillside, and mother and son sometimes communicate with each other in Hmong. Instead of going out to take jobs for the time being, his mother stays with her son every day, patiently applying ointment to the bag on his face and taking hot water to soak his swollen calves, “The teacher is not here now, so you can tell me anything you want to say, if you want to, or not.” The son offered to let his mother sleep with him, and she agreed. At night, he told her that being in acrobatics school was like being in “jail.

Children playing in the village

On the fourth day home, Xiaohao finally stopped being bored at home and took out the toy car in the house and ran to his friends in the village, where the children ran after the toy car. Some children wanted to see a heel turn, and Xiaohao immediately made a demonstration, flipping a not too smooth heel, revealing half of his belly, triggering the applause of his partners.

Only Huazi and Xiangzi, the two brothers, were still wearing the old clothes from their time in Chengdu, quite a bit like refugees. But the two dirty children are the most relaxed of several children – for these two runaway veterans, a few days and nights in Chengdu is nothing, it just throws the problem back to Xiang Biyou, what to do with the children later?

In the yard, Xiang Biyou’s newly bought dozens of chicks are pecking around, and the van he relies on for a living is parked in front of the door, and business is bad, earning two to three thousand dollars a month. Xinxin, Xiaohao and Xiangzi will resume school, but Huazi has dropped out of school for many years and can not return to school. Xiang Biyou once said, for Huazi to do a replacement ID card, and then take him out to work, but then he can not accompany the two daughters are studying, this question he still does not have an answer.

The acrobatic school is definitely not going back, the children are firmly shaking their heads. The contractual damages of 100,000 yuan for breach of contract were astronomical, so much so that the parents showed an attitude of giving up, pointing to their home behind them, “Look where do I have 100,000 yuan?” Their main concern at the moment was to resume work, which had been suspended for several days, as soon as possible, so that their children would not go hungry next month. Their world remains closed, and they haven’t even seen the news that an investigation team was set up in Wuqiao County, Hebei and the results of the investigation were released.

On May 16, the People’s Government of Wuqiao County, Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, issued a notice on the investigation and handling of the “acrobatic teenagers lost in Chengdu,” the notice pointed out that Gao Wenjun is not the head of the school but the head of the Wuqiao Variety Circus, the children went to not the real school, but Gao Wenjun’s group, only by Wuqiao County Vocational Education The center provides school registration, cultural class teaching and teaching space for them.

The investigation decided to the variety of acrobatic troupe in charge of Gao Wenjun suspected of performing safety supervision duties in place as well as private engraving, trading seals and other issues subject to investigation, given a reprimand, ordered to confess repentance, and the seizure of privately engraved seals; by the county cultural, radio and Tourism Bureau to suspend the variety of acrobatic troupe “business performance license”, ordered to stop its business rectification.

This is an attempt to go home to escape brings all sorts of ludicrous results: a fake school, a lot of suffering took a lot of effort to walk more than 40 kilometers in the opposite direction from home, and finally the real, home.

At five o’clock in the evening, Xiaohao’s mother was ready to cook. The potatoes from last year’s harvest were piled up in the corner, their sprouts tangled together. The greens are picked fresh from the ground, the chicken is bought in town, and the three ingredients are cooked into a pot of soup and dipped in a homemade spicy sauce. The youngest daughter wants to sing a song of ooh-la-la-la to her mother, and Xiaohao only thinks about going upstairs to play with remote control cars with her brother after dinner. Dad had already eaten out, but he went to the table, poured a drink, and watched quietly while the kids made noise. In the days when Xiaohao had just left for Hebei, the couple would sometimes put an empty bowl on the dining table, and now the owner of the empty bowl has returned. They don’t care what’s happening outside, and they can’t plan for even the most tangential future. But at the moment, they feel happy at this table.
