Netizen shoots himself to death accidentally in TikTok video

A local teen netizen was accidentally killed by his own gun when a friend filmed him pretending to shoot himself for posting to the popular short-form video platform TikTok, Pakistani police said today.

According to police, Hamidullah, 19, took a friend’s pistol and pointed it at his temple, and pulled the trigger, but he didn’t know the bullet was loaded.

“The young man died on the spot,” said Badshah Hazrat, a senior police officer in the Swat Valley in northwest Pakistan. He also told AFP, “The young man was a well-known local internet personality and was active in TikTok.”

Hamidullah had more than 8,000 followers on TikTok and had posted nearly 600 clips, mostly of him and his friends playing pranks, cricket or everyday life in the rugged and picturesque river valley.

Police say that the video of Hamidullah’s accidental death was not uploaded to TikTok, but was circulated among his friends and quickly spread widely.

This is another social media stunt that has turned into an accidental tragedy in Pakistan. Last year in Karachi, a security guard shot himself to death while playing with a rifle in a TikTok video. Another teenager was hit and killed by a train in Rawalpindi in January while making a TikTok video.
