Breaking news: Rumor has it that Wang Jingyu was arrested in the United Arab Emirates and the Chinese Communist Party intervened to repatriate China

U.S.-based Chinese dissident Guo Baosheng tweeted on the evening of May 20 that 19-year-old Wang Jingyu, who was “fugitive” from the Chinese Communist Party for posting on Weibo questioning the Communist Party’s claims about soldiers killed at the Sino-Indian border, was arrested by UAE police on April 5 while in transit to the United States in Dubai. The Chinese embassy intervened to have the UAE repatriate Wang.

According to Guo Baosheng’s tweet, “Breaking news: Wang Jingyu needs the help of the media. He was arrested by UAE police for no reason while in transit to the US in Dubai on April 5. The Chinese Embassy wants Wang to be repatriated to China. The UAE fabricated a trumped up charge of insulting religion. The attorney has helped Jing Yu Wang to resolve her case successfully. However, the UAE still wants to deport Wang to China. Now the problem cannot be solved by normal legal means and the media needs to speak out.”

The post also included Wang’s airline ticket. Guo Baosheng said, “$16,000 ticket from Istanbul to New York, via UAE arrest. The Chinese Communist Party is recklessly arresting people worldwide!”

Wang, a 19-year-old who had been traveling in Europe, was “fugitive” across the border by Chinese authorities in March for posting on Weibo questioning the Communist Party’s claims about soldiers killed at the China-India border. Police in his hometown of Chongqing gave him a three-day deadline to return to China to supposedly “turn himself in,” and his parents at home were placed under police surveillance and threatened with detention. However, Wang refused to return to China, and he also boldly spoke out abroad to criticize the Chinese Communist Party, and was considered a thorn in its side.

Wang has been interviewed by this station.
