In Kashgar, Xinjiang, 138 cases of non-symptomatic patients were diagnosed and a Level 1 emergency response was initiated.

A total of 138 cases of asymptomatic neocoronavirus (COVID-19) were confirmed on October 25 in Kashgar, Xinjiang, in far western China. The infections were linked to the factory where the parents of a woman found on Saturday worked. Local epidemic prevention authorities have launched a Level 1 emergency response, and China’s National Health Commission has sent a team to the area.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Beijing issued a recommendation against travel and business trips to the Kashgar region unless absolutely necessary in the near future.

According to Chinese media, Xinjiang regional health officials reported on Sunday night that after a 17-year-old woman was diagnosed with an asymptomatic infection in Shufu County, Kashgar region, on the 24th of April, a local investigation of her close contacts and close contacts of close contacts was immediately launched for nucleic acid testing. The results showed that 137 people tested positive, all of whom had asymptomatic infections.

It was reported that hundreds of thousands of people have been tested for nucleic acid locally, and the universal nucleic acid test is expected to be completed in a few days. At present, the local airport has resumed operations, and flights in and out of the port are normal, but all departing passengers need to have a nucleic acid test report before boarding. The local elementary and middle schools and kindergartens are temporarily closed until October 30, and classes will resume after the tests are completed.

The recent sporadic outbreaks of new coronavirus infections have been treated with caution by governments across China, and strict control and prevention efforts have been launched as soon as they are discovered. Previously, when an outbreak was reported in Qingdao, authorities immediately launched epidemic prevention and completed nucleic acid testing for more than 10 million people in the city within five days.

China’s National Health Commission (NHC) reported 15 cases of imported new coronavirus infections in its daily bulletin on Saturday, down from 28 cases on Friday. The health commission also reported 19 asymptomatic infections, compared with 27 on Friday.

As of October 24, a total of 85,790 cases of new coronavirus infection had been reported in mainland China, with the death toll remaining at 4,634. However, there is widespread international skepticism about the accuracy of the numbers reported by China. China has been criticized for massive underreporting of new coronavirus cases and outbreaks.
