On May 19, the second trial of the child molestation case against Wang Zhenhua, former chairman of New City Holdings, was upheld, and he was still sentenced to five years in prison. Another defendant in the case, Zhou Yanfen, also had his original sentence upheld.
On May 19, the official microblogging site of the Shanghai Second Intermediate Court of the Communist Party of China (CPC) informed that Wang Zhenhua and Zhou Yanfen’s child molestation appeal case was ruled to reject the appeal and uphold the original sentence.
It is reported that on June 17, 2020, Wang Zhenhua was sentenced to five years in prison for child molestation. Another defendant in the case, Zhou Yanfen, was also sentenced to four years in prison for child molestation.
The molestation case occurred on the afternoon of June 29, 2019, when Wang Zhenhua, former chairman of New City Holdings, molested a 9-year-old girl at a five-star hotel on Daduhe Road in Shanghai, according to a land media report last year. And Zhou Yanfen, who brought the victim girl into the hotel, was a friend of the girl’s mother. After the incident, Wang Zhenhua paid Zhou Yanfen 10,000 yuan in cash.
On the night of July 3, 2019, Wang Zhenhua was criminally detained. After the incident came to light, New City Holdings fell for 3 consecutive days. on July 9, 4 trading days, the market value of New City Holdings evaporated 32 billion yuan.
On July 10 of the same year, Wang Zhenhua and Zhou Yanfen were arrested on suspicion of constituting child molestation.
