The United Arab Emirates announced Tuesday (18) that a third injection will be added to vaccinees six months after receiving the initial two-dose treatment regimen of the Chinese Communist Party state drug vaccine. The move appears to make the UAE the first country in the world to officially adopt a booster dose of the national drug.
Last month, CDC Director Gao Fu admitted that the efficacy of the domestic vaccine was low, which has deepened questions about the efficacy of the CCP’s domestic vaccine. In addition to efficacy data, the CCP’s State Pharmaceutical Group has not released public data on the State Pharmaceutical vaccine, prompting criticism of its lack of transparency.
Some residents of the UAE received a third dose of the Sinopharm vaccine due to concerns about the lack of antibody response. The UAE government then issued a brief statement to provide additional residents with a third dose of the GMP vaccine.
The government statement did not reveal any further information, except to say that all approved vaccines have undergone rigorous safety testing. In its first public release of information on the efficacy of the Chinese medicine vaccine last year, the UAE said the vaccine was 86 percent effective against the Chinese communist virus (COVID-19) based on its review of interim analyses, but did not provide further details.
Last month, Li Meng, head of international cooperation at China National Pharmaceutical Group’s China Biotechnology Co. said the UAE’s use of adjuvant doses was “not included in our clinical program.”
“The country made its own decision that for some immunocompromised or elderly populations, if they find that their antibody levels are low, then they may add a third dose, but that is not recommended in our formal program.” Li Meng said.
The UAE is eager to achieve widespread immunization as it hopes to recover its economy quickly. The country’s economic hub, Dubai, has benefited greatly from the service sector, but tourism and aviation have been hit hard by the Communist virus.
This spring, the UAE became the first country in the world to produce its local version of the national vaccine. The UAE has one of the fastest per capita vaccination rates in the world, and the CCP national vaccine has become key to the UAE’s vaccination campaign. However, despite the fact that the UAE has so far received 117 doses of the vaccine per 100 residents, the number of new cases hovers above 1,000 per day.
Earlier this month, health authorities in Bahrain, another Gulf Arab country that relies on national vaccines, reported that booster doses will soon be offered to residents in order to strengthen herd immunity.
Following the UAE’s announcement of the decision on Tuesday, Bahrain said it would first add a third dose for a priority group of national vaccine recipients, including first responders (first responder), residents over the age of 50 and people with underlying health conditions.
Earlier this month, the World Health Organization approved an emergency authorization for the use of the CCP national vaccine, which appears to pave the way for millions of doses to be delivered to countries in need through the UN-backed CCP pneumonia vaccine implementation program (COVAX), but may also put them in a loop of constant additional doses.
