June 4, July 1 Sensitive Days Approaching, Large Numbers of China’s Stabilization Officers Enter Beijing to Arrest Petitioners

According to information and videos received by Minsheng Watch, a Chinese civil rights organization, petitioners in Beijing are once again being arrested and suppressed as the politically sensitive days of June 4 and July 1 approach. The Beijing authorities have been arresting and suppressing them since mid-April. Beijing authorities have been maintaining stability since mid-April, and government stability offices across the country have asked each unit to report daily on the situation of rights activists and dissidents being monitored and maintained. Stabilization forces from around the country have also entered Beijing, going to various rental houses and publicly arresting rights activists.

According to the report, Ding Yajun, a human rights activist from Hegang, Heilongjiang Province, was arrested on Tuesday evening at his residence in Sanyingmen by local stabilization personnel. More than 20 unidentified people from Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, also broke into the villagers’ residence in Dadong, Yancun Town, Fangshan District, Beijing on Friday, and made public arrests of human rights activists in Beijing without showing any legal formalities.

The authorities are very nervous near sensitive dates and treat the visitors as unstable people who must be cleared out of Beijing, according to Minsheng Watch. Many of the rights activists and dissidents who are being monitored, followed, and stabilized in various places are also not allowed to leave the province, let alone enter Beijing. Those who are arrested and returned to their hometowns will lose their freedom, some under house arrest and some framed and imprisoned by the authorities.

Minsheng Watch calls on all sectors to pay attention to the fate of the arrested petitioners and to disclose the names and phone numbers of the offending officials in order to pursue legal responsibility.
