According to the latest 2021 poll released by InterNations, a global expatriate community website, on May 18 (Tuesday), Taiwan ranked as the most popular country for expatriates to visit for the third consecutive year, topping 59 countries worldwide due to its overall cost of living, ease of settlement, and overall quality of life.
According to the “Expat Insider 2021” poll released by InterNation on May 18, the top 10 most popular countries for expatriates in 2021 are Taiwan, Mexico, Costa Rica, Malaysia, Portugal, New Zealand, Australia, Ecuador, Canada, and Vietnam. Canada and Vietnam.
The top 10 least popular countries for expatriates in 2021 include Kuwait (59th), Italy (58th), South Africa (57th), Russia (56th), Egypt (55th), Japan (54th), Cyprus (53rd), Turkey (52nd), India (51st), and Malta (50th).
Hong Kong, under the Red Scare of the Chinese Communist Party, is listed in 46th place.
The poll shows that Taiwan’s job stability rate is 83% (global average 61%); satisfaction rate of economic condition is 85% (global average 62%); expatriates in Taiwan are 75% satisfied with their jobs (global average 68%); overall life satisfaction rate is 80% (global average 75%); satisfaction rate of medical level is 95% (global average 71%); and a 94% satisfaction rate with affordability (61% global average). No expatriates feel unsafe in Taiwan, well below the global average of 8%.
And Taiwan is considered the friendliest country in the world, with 62% of expatriates saying it is very easy to make friends in Taiwan (compared to a global average of 48%); 95% of expatriates say Taiwanese people are very friendly, (compared to a global average of 67%).
The poll also shows that Italy is ranked 58th due to its current economic situation. 30% of expatriates in Italy are dissatisfied with their current financial situation (global average 19%); 33% of expatriates in Italy say their disposable household income does not cover their expenses (global average 23%); 56% of expatriates in Italy say they cannot find a job in Italy (global average 33%); and 56% of expatriates in Italy say they cannot find a job in Italy (global average 33%). (global average 33%); and 31% of expatriates are dissatisfied with their job in Italy (global average 16%).
Russia is also in 56th place due to the current poor economic situation. Russian expatriates say their jobs lack security; and the state of Russia’s air quality, water and sanitation infrastructure is unsatisfactory.
Japan is in 54th place as only 36% of expatriates find it easy to settle in Japan (below the global average of 62%); 45% find it difficult to adapt to the local culture in Japan (below the global average of 63%); 30% are dissatisfied with their work-life balance (above the global average of 17%); and 26% are dissatisfied with their financial situation (above the global average of 19% globally). However, 97% of expatriates are satisfied with the safety of Japan (higher than the global average of 84%).
The InterNations poll of 12,420 expatriates from 174 countries living in 59 countries asked expatriates to evaluate their lives abroad in terms of “quality of life, working abroad, personal financial situation, cost of living and ease of settlement. At least 50 respondents were surveyed in each country.
