IOC President Pushes for “Political Neutrality”, Said to Protect Chinese Communist Party

According to Deutsche Welle, Thomas Bach, the German president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), recently published an article in the British newspaper The Guardian in which he stressed that the Olympic Games should remain politically neutral and not be turned into a venue for demonstrations.

However, he was accused on October 27 by the German Association of Persecuted Peoples (GfbV) of silently accepting serious human rights violations and even of protecting the criticized Chinese Communist Party.

The GfbV also stressed that Bach never mentioned the word “Xinjiang” in his public statements.

Meanwhile, the international boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing has been growing louder and louder. British Foreign Secretary Raab said in early October that the United Kingdom might not participate in the Games if there was more evidence of Chinese oppression of Uighurs in the Xinjiang region.

The Australian Parliament will also discuss whether to boycott the Games in November.
