A 32-year-old man was stabbed by an African-American suspect in an assault in Manhattan’s Sara D. Roosevelt Park at 16:00 p.m. The man is wanted by the city’s 5th Precinct, and the two may have known each other previously.
Police said that at about 4:20 p.m., a man was attacked by an African-American man with a knife in the park at the intersection of Forsyth St. and Broome St. He was just leaning his bicycle against a tree.
In police surveillance video of the incident released on the 18th, the victim backed up with his hands up, while the suspect was holding a sharp knife and pressing on; police said the two men may have met in the park for some purpose and may have known each other previously, but were attacked by one party.
After the incident, the suspect fled the scene on foot, and the district’s fifth precinct and the city’s emergency medical services team arrived and transported the victim to Bellevue Hospital for treatment of a cut to the victim’s arm, which is now in stable condition.
The suspect was last seen wearing a beige top, khaki pants and black leather shoes; wearing a plaid scarf white mask on his head.
Police are now urging the public to call the Crime Stoppers hotline (800) 577-TIPS (8477) immediately if they see anyone with similar physical characteristics to those in the picture or video, or visit the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com, or send a message via cell phone to 274637 (CRIMES), then enter TIP577, or tweet @ NYPDTips, as well as through the Stop Crime mobile app “CS-NYC”, where tips are kept strictly confidential.
