On Monday, Vancouver police released photos of six gang members who pose a major threat to public safety, hoping that people will keep their distance and call police as soon as they see them in public places.
Police expect that violent clashes between gangs in Metro Vancouver may further escalate in the near future, and the six people in the photos are highly likely to be the targets of gang attacks.
Recently, there have been a lot of shooting cases in Metro Vancouver and the security situation is worrying. According to Vancouver Police Chief Adam Palmer, there have been 20 gang-related homicides and 20 attempted murders in Metro Vancouver so far this year.
Palmer said that violent gang conflicts are posing a major threat to public safety in Metro Vancouver, and that many reckless, violent actions have threatened the safety and even the lives of innocent passersby.
On May 8, an innocent citizen was struck by a stray bullet in a shooting that occurred in Burnaby.
The shooting at a downtown Burnaby restaurant a few days ago was equally alarming, killing one and injuring two.
According to sources, a man was shot 13 times, killing him on the spot. The car’s windshield was riddled with bullet holes and devastation, and it looked like it had been shot to pieces from afar.
The shooting took place outside a Cactus Club restaurant near the Market Crossing shopping plaza in Burnaby, a popular restaurant in the area that is still quite popular.
Waitress Holly Clark recalled, “It was horrible, tables were pushed over, people were screaming and running around.
It happened so suddenly that people didn’t know what to do, and some people scratched themselves in the process of running away.
Some witnesses said that the situation was the sound of gunfire, people simply do not know from which direction the gunman fired, but also simply do not know which direction to hide, and nowhere to hide, “it was really too scary, we do not know how to do, I thought I would be shot.”
A 28-year-old young man was shot and killed on the spot just outside the very familiar Vancouver International Airport terminal at around 3 p.m. on May 9. There may have been more than one shooter, who is still at large.
Shots were also fired at the time, and the man fell to the ground on the spot as panicked travelers scattered in fear, looking for cover and hiding everywhere.
Many fear that this is just a prelude to a mass shooting ……
A video on social media titled “Someone was shot right in front of us” shows the victim being shot on the sidewalk next to a pile of carts.
This is a place where many travelers usually pass by, and the shooter chose such a location to kill without any consideration for the safety of the general public.
Palmer said the six men’s photos are being released now, not because they are wanted, but because the six could be the target of a gang attack and not only would their families, friends or those associated with them be at risk, but it would also mean that anyone near them could be at risk.
The six gang members pictured are between the ages of 22 and 41, and police intelligence indicates they are being targeted by rival gang members. Police say they want all Metro Vancouverites to recognize the faces of these high-risk individuals and keep their distance from them.
Once seen in public they should take refuge in a safe place and contact police as soon as possible so that police officers dedicated to the investigation can make contact with them.
Palmer said the six people are only a few of the dozens that police believe may pose the greatest threat to the public and need to be dealt with as a priority. They are all familiar to police, and some have prior convictions.
The six are Garinder Deo, 35, Harjit Deo, 38, Barinder Dhaliwal, 38, Meninder Dhaliwal, 28, Ekene Anigbo, 22, and Damion Ryan, 41.
Also in response to escalating gang violence, Vancouver police last week formed a new task force with members from the Major Crimes Unit, which is responsible for preventing gang violence and investigating incidents after they occur.
Police revealed that they will be stepping up patrols in the city in the near future, especially near restaurants or businesses frequented by gang members.
