Giuliani’s son officially announces his candidacy for governor of New York

Andrew Giuliani, son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, officially announced his candidacy for New York State governor on Tuesday (May 18). He said it will be the fight of the century to make New York the “greatest” state in the country.

“I’m in (the race).” Andrew told Fox News on Tuesday that he will run against incumbent New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the 2022 gubernatorial race.

Andrew said, “New York deserves a leader who will fight to make the state the greatest state in America again. If New Yorkers elect me governor, I will pull New York back from the precipice of destruction and make it a shining state on the hill again!”

“I think it will be the battle of the century.” Andrew said.

The son of a former New York mayor, Andrews told the New York Post on Tuesday that he has the political gene.

New York voters may also remember Andrew attending his father’s inauguration as a young boy. During the Trump (Trump) administration, Andrew served as deputy director of the White House Office of Public Liaison. He told Fox News he was “proud” of the work he did during those years.

Andrews said it’s up to New Yorkers to decide who they ultimately choose as governor, “but what I can tell you is that I’m going to be more focused on turning this great state around.”

In addition to Andrews, New York State Republican U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin (R) announced his candidacy for New York’s governorship last month. His candidacy has the support of some of Trump’s allies.

While New York is a relatively stable blue state where Cuomo won re-election to a third term by a huge 23-point margin in 2018, the governor has been caught in the middle of intense scrutiny. Ten women have made sexual harassment allegations against him, leading to an independent investigation of those allegations by the state attorney general and an impeachment inquiry in the state legislature. Cuomo, for his part, denies the allegations against him.
