Five experts from the mainland to Vietnam infected with India’s mutated virus

Recently, five mainland Chinese experts who went to Vietnam for research were detected and subsequently diagnosed with the Indian epidemic variant strain one after another after returning home via Guangxi Pingxiang Friendship Pass port. The news sparked widespread concern, with people questioning whether this would cause an outbreak in the country.

Guangxi Health Commission informed that the five confirmed cases include one heavy case and four cases of common type.

According to official news from Guangxi, Chinese citizens Cao Moumou, Xiong Moumou, Liu Moumou, He Moumou and Li Moumou, who returned home via the Pingxiang Friendship Pass port, tested positive for nucleic acid upon entry.

On May 4, the Chinese embassy in Vietnam said that the four Indian experts staying in quarantine at Hotel Ru Yue 2 in Vietnam’s An Pei province were confirmed to be infected with a mutated virus (B.1.617.2) found in India. The Chinese citizens quarantined in the above-mentioned hotel tested positive for nucleic acid when they returned to the country for entry.

Epidemiological investigation shows that on April 9, Cao Moumou and five others left from Pingxiang Friendship Pass port to Vietnam’s An Phuoc province and were arranged to be quarantined at Hotel Ru Yue 2; sampled on April 22 and tested negative for nucleic acid; released from quarantine on April 23; went to Vinh Phuc province, Lai Chau province and An Phuoc province from April 23 to 29 for business visits respectively; on the night of April 26, Cao Moumou developed fever symptoms and went to a pharmacy on his own to buy On April 27, the remaining four people showed symptoms of sore throat and cough of different degrees and did not seek medical consultation or take medicine.

According to the article “Chinese expert group may be infected in isolation hotel” published by Vietnam Express on May 4, quoted by Guangxi TV, the article believes that the Vietnamese side’s isolation measures are not in place, resulting in Indian experts to infect Chinese experts with the virus.

It is understood that Cao Moumou and five others had a wide range of activities and many contacts in the Vietnam expedition.

Currently, the Indian variant of B.1.617 has spread to more than 40 countries and regions, leading to a rapid rise in illness rates in many countries, with the UK being the country with the most reports of this strain outside of India.
