As the Israeli-Palestinian conflict enters its eighth day today, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they killed a high-ranking commander of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) during an airstrike in the Gaza Corridor today.
Reuters reports that the IDF said the commander, Hussam Abu Harbeed, was the PIJ commander in the northern Gaza Corridor, a position he had held for about 15 years.
In a statement confirming the killing, the IDF said Harbeed was one of the masterminds of several terror attacks against Israeli civilians.
The newspaper noted that although Israel’s main operational target is currently another militant group, HAMAS, the IDF’s action would most likely draw strong retaliation from PIJ.
