Chengdu World University Games postponed for one year due to the impact of the epidemic

The World University Summer Games, originally scheduled to be held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province this year, will be postponed to next year due to the impact of the Communist Party’s virus epidemic.

According to the Chinese Communist Party’s official media, the International University Sports Federation (FISU) announced on May 15 that the 31st World University Summer Games 2021 in Chengdu will be held from June 26 to July 7, 2022, after consultation and confirmation by FISU, the Chinese University Sports Association and the Chengdu Universiade Organizing Committee.

The 2021 Chengdu World University Games were originally scheduled to be held from August 18 to 29 this year, however, in April this year, the decision was made to postpone the event after joint discussions, taking into account the global epidemic situation, international travel restrictions and other factors.

According to reports, in the past few months, FISU sent out a survey on the willingness of all member states to participate in the games, sending out more than 130 copies and returning about 90, with as many as 70% of member states not in favor of holding the games this year, an important factor contributing to FISU’s decision to postpone the games for a year.

FISU’s statement said that due to doubts about whether pneumonia could be fully controlled in Wuhan this summer, and the complexity of the prevention and testing specifications, the decision to postpone the event to 2022 was made after several meetings between the World University Sports Federation and the Chengdu World University Games Organizing Committee.

Since the outbreak of the Chinese Communist Party virus last year, not only have various industries been greatly affected, but the epidemic has also spread to the sports world, halting many sports events around the world and causing incalculable economic losses.
