Thailand today reported 9,635 new confirmed cases of Chinese Communist Virus Disease (COVID-19), a single day high, including 6,853 cases of cluster infection in prisons.
Thailand is now fighting the third wave of the epidemic, which has infected a total of 111,082 people so far.
In addition, Thailand’s COVID-19 working group also reported 25 new deaths in a single day, bringing the cumulative number of deaths in Thailand since last year’s outbreak to 614.
Excluding clusters of infections in prisons, Thailand has 2,782 confirmed cases today, which is close to the record high of 2,839 confirmed cases in a single day set late last month.
Thailand has launched a vaccination program for frontline personnel and vulnerable groups, with 2.2 million doses administered so far; the vaccines currently in use are two vaccines imported from China’s Sinovac Biotech and British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.
