Singapore’s Ministry of Education announced on the 16th that the country’s schools will be closed from the 19th, and students will be fully home schooled until the end of the semester on the 28th of this month.
Minister of Education Tan Chin Seng said it was necessary to significantly reduce interaction between people because of the surge in cases of unknown origin of the infection today. He also explained that classes were only suspended from the 19th because teachers needed time to prepare materials for home study and communicate with students and parents. Parents also need time to find alternative care arrangements for their children.
The Star State added 49 cases on the 16th, with 38 local cases, 18 of which have an unknown source of infection, and a cumulative total of 61,585 confirmed cases.
