Dong Yaoqiong, who splashed ink on Xi’s statue, cries that she is still under heavy surveillance.

Dong Yaoqiong, who was sent to a mental hospital for publicly pouring ink on a portrait of Xi Jinping in Shanghai in 2018, posted a video on Twitter on Monday, noting that she no longer fears the Chinese government and that authorities are still closely monitoring her.

In the video, Dong Yaoqiong says that after her second release from the psychiatric hospital, she was put to work for the local government. The work was a form of surveillance, as any movement she made was restricted. She has now decided to tweet because she is no longer afraid of the authorities.

She also said that she wanted to fight for her freedom by sharing the video, because if she is locked up in a hospital by the government again, she may not be able to get out. She revealed that the authorities have restricted her freedom to work, socialize, and other rights, and that she has no contact with her father.

A source familiar with Dong Yaoqiong’s recent situation was quoted by Deutsche Welle as saying that it was indeed Dong Yaoqiong herself in the Twitter video.
