Can you even compare this? Another odd event for the fighting…

The Moscow Times reported on May 14 that the all-Russian gravedigging competition “Gravedigging Without Limits” was held at the Crematorium Memorial Park in Novosibirsk, Russia’s third largest city, and was open to all funeral service workers over 18 years old from all regions of Russia and CIS countries.

It is reported that this year’s participants came mainly from Novosibirsk, Omsk, Tomsk and the Altai Republic.

According to the rules of the competition, the participants from each region participated in teams of two. Each team had to race to dig a grave 200 cm long, 80 cm wide and 160 cm deep.

After the grave pit is dug, the staff will put the prepared coffin into the pit to test whether the grave pit is qualified. It is reported that, in addition to the size of the grave pit and the speed of digging, the skill of the grave digger and the accuracy and neatness of the grave pit are also judged by the judges. The video shows that the competition site is in full swing, and all the participants are working hard with shovels, and some even took off their tops and fought naked.

In the end, the team from Omsk region of Russia won the championship, which took them 38 minutes, setting a new record for the Russian gravedigging competition, winning 30,000 rubles (about 2,615 yuan) and becoming the strongest gravedigger in 2021.

The winning team and their prize

According to Russia’s TASS news agency, this strange tournament called “Grave Digging Unlimited” is held once a year with the aim of raising the social prestige of the funeral industry, strengthening the work of grave diggers and attracting the younger generation to the funeral industry.

It is worth mentioning that last year’s gravedigging competition was held in Tomsk, Siberia, where the winner took 52 minutes to dig a grave.
