The U.S. is about to begin a nationwide vaccination campaign against neo-crown, with 20 million people vaccinated by the end of this year, enough vaccine to vaccinate the entire U.S. population by June of next year, and enough to vaccinate 8 billion people worldwide by early to mid-2022.
That means the U.S. will have the neo-crown outbreak under control by the second half of 2021, Moncef Slaoui, head of the U.S. government’s vaccine program, told The Washington Post in an interview Tuesday.
U.S. Vice President Mike Pence announced Dec. 1 that distribution of the new coronavirus vaccine would begin in the third week of December, and that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) would quickly approve emergency authorization for the first batch of vaccines, Bloomberg reports. State governors will be able to decide who gets vaccinated first, and the federal government will fully support the distribution plans chosen by their state governments.
Vaccine program director Slaugher said that within 24 hours of authorization, up to 36 to 48 hours, the neocrown vaccine could be injected into the human arm by the vaccine development company.
Vaccine development companies Pfizer and Moderna applied to the FDA for emergency use authorization for the Neocrown vaccine on Nov. 30. Based on the results of clinical trials, both companies have introduced vaccines that are more than 90% effective.
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended that the first doses of neocrown vaccine be prioritized for use by 21 million health care workers and 3 million people in long-term care facilities such as nursing homes.
The Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) announced on January 1 that it has planned a number of initiatives, working with various government agencies, airlines, couriers, and other private companies, to ensure safe and rapid distribution of the neocrown vaccine throughout the country.
