The city of Columbus, Ohio, has reached a $10 million settlement with the family of an unarmed African-American man who was shot and killed by a Columbus police officer last year.
Adam Coy, the white Columbus police officer who shot and killed Andre Hill, a 47-year-old African-American man, on Dec. 22 last year, was fired from his job and faced multiple murder charges.
Columbus city attorney Zach Klein said the $10 million settlement with Hill’s family is the largest settlement ever reached in Columbus.
Klein issued a statement noting, “We understand that Hill’s family will never be whole again because of the actions of this former police officer.”
He added, “No amount of money will ever bring Hill back to his family, but we believe this (settlement agreement) is the right thing to do that is important and necessary.”
