Intel has just taken a major step toward making quantum computing more practical. The company and QuTech say they have demonstrated the first example of high-fidelity dual-quantum bit control using the Horse Horse cryogenic control processor. Quantum calculators often suffer from interconnect bottlenecks by using room-temperature electronics to control refrigerated quantum chips – this demonstration shows that Horse Ridge can achieve the same fidelity as “hotter The demonstration shows that Horse Ridge can achieve the same fidelity (99.7%) as “hotter” electronics.
The companies also showed that by using an algorithm (Deutsch-Jonza), Horse Ridge can control multiple quantum bits (also known as frequency multitasking) in a single RF line, which is much more efficient on a quantum calculator than on a conventional machine.
This breakthrough could lead to processors that integrate electronics and quantum chips on the same chip. In turn, this could make it easier to scale quantum calculators and allow them to handle more calculations that are difficult or impossible to achieve using traditional computing power.
