Canada and the United States to flip-flop! Michigan Governor Orders Shutdown of Pipeline No. 5 Enbridge Ignores Ban

The U.S. Colonial Pipeline oil company, only recently due to the hacking of the oil pipeline system, and the suspension of transport, resulting in 17 states in the southeast of the United States and Washington, D.C. state of emergency, and now, the United States and Canada because of an oil pipeline farce to the point of near-flip-flop.

Canadian energy giant Enbridge filed court documents on Tuesday (May 11) to oppose the U.S. state of Michigan’s request to close the No. 5 pipeline (Line5), and Enbridge ignored Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s deadline to close the No. 5 pipeline the next day (May 12) and decided to continue operating the pipeline. but the Michigan attorney general said he would force a halt to pipeline operations once a court order was obtained. And according to experts, if Line 5 is shut down, it will hit the Canadian economy hard.

The Line 5 pipeline is an important source of energy for the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec, transporting oil from Alberta and Saskatchewan through the Great Lakes State from western Canada to eastern Canada every day, and delivering about 540,000 barrels of oil per day to Ontario, Quebec, Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. The Canadian government is concerned that a shutdown would pose a significant threat to Canada’s energy security.

Whitmer ordered Line 5, which connects Lake Huron and Lake Michigan, to be shut down on Wednesday due to concerns about a possible spill. Enbridge, however, responded that there are no plans to shut down Line 5 on Wednesday. The court has now ordered the parties to negotiate and has scheduled another meeting for May 18.

“We need a court order requiring Anchorage to shut down the pipeline. We will continue to work to make that happen as soon as possible.” Lynsey Mukomel, a spokeswoman for Michigan’s attorney general, said in a statement, though she also acknowledged it may take some time to reach.

“Line 5 doesn’t just affect one province or one region, it supports our entire country.” Canadian Natural Resources Minister Seamus O’ Regan stressed that Line 5 is important not only to Canadians, but also to Americans, for heating the homes of families in both countries and supporting the jobs of workers in both countries. O’Regan said, “We will continue to work together to defend Line 5, to defend Canada’s energy security and the workers who built this country.”
