U.S. Plans Rapid Rollout of Vaccine, Aims to Vaccinate 20 Million by Year-End

U.S. officials unveiled plans Tuesday (Dec. 1) to begin vaccinating Americans against new crowns as early as mid-December, and he also hopes to have 20 million people vaccinated by the end of the year.

According to Reuters, Moncef Slaoui, chief adviser to the U.S. federal government’s neo-crown vaccine program “Operation Warp” and a former GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceutical executive, said 20 million people could be vaccinated by the end of 2020, and most Americans could receive the highly effective vaccine by mid-2021.

“Twenty-four hours after (the vaccine) is approved, probably up to 36 to 48 hours, the vaccine will be in people’s arms,” Slaoui said at an event hosted by The Washington Post.

Slavi added that about 60 million to 70 million doses of the new crown vaccine are expected to be available each month starting next January after Pfizer Inc. and Moderna Inc. receive regulatory approval for their products.

The report also said that an outside advisory panel to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will meet on Dec. 10 to discuss whether to recommend emergency approval for Pfizer’s vaccine. They will review Modena’s vaccine a week later.

An advisory panel to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) voted 13-1 on Tuesday to recommend that health care workers and residents of long-term care facilities receive the first limited doses of the neocrown vaccine.

In addition, the U.S. Department of Transportation said Tuesday that it has taken all necessary regulatory steps to ensure “safe and expeditious ground and air transportation” of the neocrown vaccine. The DOT has also prepared for “immediate high-volume shipments” of neocrown vaccine,” DOT Secretary Xiaolan Chao said.

Secretary of Transportation Xiaolan Chao said, “The Department of Transportation has laid the foundation for the safe shipment of NeoCrown vaccine and is proud to support this historic effort.
