Since the outbreak of the Chinese Communist Party virus (Wuhan pneumonia), the Standing Committee of the Politburo and the majority of Politburo members have stopped foreign visits, and the Politburo Standing Committee also “meets” by video when foreign guests visit China. Only Yang Jiechi and Wang Yi, among the senior officials at the vice-state level, have made foreign visits. According to analysis, the Xi administration’s arrangement of different factions to do “dirty work” is another manifestation of the CCP’s internal strife.
On May 11, CCP Executive Vice Premier Han Zheng met by video with Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister Berdymukhamedov, who was visiting Xi’an, as he did on April 16 with U.S. Presidential Special Envoy for Climate Issues John Kerry.
According to a May 13 op-ed in the Hong Kong newspaper Ming Pao, since the outbreak of the epidemic, the Communist Party’s Politburo Standing Committee has not only stopped all foreign visits, but has also avoided meeting in person with the very few foreign visitors. Li Zhanshu, chairman of the Communist Party’s National People’s Congress, and Wang Yang, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, have also met with foreign parliamentary leaders on several occasions by videoconference.
Among senior officials at the vice-state level, except for Yang Jiechi, director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, and Wang Yi, State Councillor and Foreign Minister, who have made overseas visits, none of them have left the country; contacts with foreign visitors are also limited to Yang Jiechi and Wang Yi.
In March, Yang Jiechi traveled to Alaska to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
According to foreign media, Yang Jiechi and Wang Yi’s visit to the U.S. was a rare combination. Previously, there has not been a scene where Yang Jiechi and Wang Yi traveled together.
According to Li Linyi, a commentator on current affairs, Yang Jiechi belongs to the Jiang faction, and the Xi administration has no choice but to send people from different factions to do the “dirty work”. Yang Jiechi was sent by Xi to engage in diplomacy, turning him into a war wolf.
In early April, all 16 central supervision teams were unveiled, and the fourth team was headed by Che Jun, who had just stepped down as secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee in September last year.
The fourth supervisory group was stationed in Inner Mongolia for a three-month period. Inner Mongolia Hohhot City as of May 6, has taken the initiative to explain the problem of the political and legal police accumulated 436 people.
In February this year, the former deputy secretary of the Political and Legal Committee of the Anhui Provincial Committee, Che Jianjun, was double-opened. The official notification said that Che Jianjun constitutes a job violation and suspected of bribery crimes, suspected criminal issues transferred to the prosecution. Che Jianjun is the younger brother of former Zhejiang Party Secretary Che Jun and a powerful figure in Anhui’s “political and legal system”.
He was a member of the Standing Committee of the Anhui Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and the Secretary General of the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection before being promoted to Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection in 2011, and by the end of 2016, he was also the Director of the 610 Office of the Anhui Provincial Government, as well as the Deputy Secretary of the Political and Legal Committee of the Anhui Provincial Party Committee and the Director of the Preventive Office of the Provincial Party Committee, all of which are sensitive positions involving the persecution of Falun Gong. He also served as deputy head of the provincial Leading Group for the Special Struggle against Blackness and Evil.
On July 1 last year, 58-year-old Che Jianjun was transferred to an idle position in the provincial People’s Congress, and the “accident” had already been revealed. In the same month, Che Jianjun fell from the horse.
Li Linyi said that the Xi authorities pushed Che Jun into the so-called position of eliminating the black sheep and was forced to arrest people, taking down many political and legal officials in Inner Mongolia, which is the same logic as sending Yang Jiechi to do the dirty work. And when Che Jun’s brother fell, he was also taken into Xi’s hands and had to fight to do the dirty work.
According to Li Linyi, Xi let people from different factions do the dirty work, while people from Xi’s faction are saving their strength behind the scenes, which is another manifestation of the CCP’s infighting.
