As the Israeli-Palestinian conflict continues to worsen, former U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday (11) took the opportunity to blame the current President Joe Biden for the situation, saying it was due to the other side’s weakness and lack of support for Israel.
In a statement, Trump boasted that his four-year term as president of the United States was a “peaceful one” because Israel’s enemies knew that the United States strongly supported Israel and that they would quickly retaliate if Israel was attacked; however, “under Biden, the world has become more violent and more unstable; this is because of his weakness and lack of support for Israel. This is because of his weakness and lack of support for Israel, which has led to attacks on our allies. Trump continued that the U.S. must support Israel at all times and that the Palestinians must stop using violence, terror and rocket attacks; and that the U.S. must show strong support for Israel’s right to self-defense.
The White House on Tuesday condemned Hamas and other groups for launching rocket attacks on Israel, saying Israel has a legitimate right to self-defense, but at the same time pressed Israel on the treatment of Palestinians, saying Jerusalem must be a place of peaceful coexistence.
The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday (12) to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian situation, the second such meeting in three days. The media reported Tuesday, citing diplomats and sources familiar with the matter, that the Security Council was to issue a statement on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict after Monday’s meeting (10), but it was called off by the U.S., which said it was brokering a ceasefire behind the scenes and feared a statement at this time would backfire.
The UN special envoy for the Middle East peace process, Tor Wennesland, also warned on Tuesday that Israel and Palestine are heading toward a full-scale war, urging both sides to cease fire immediately, and that the leaders of the parties have a responsibility to cool the situation.
