Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture, a chemical plant this morning, an explosion, a burst of smoke, four people are known to have been sent to the hospital with minor injuries, including two serious burns. The fire is still not completely extinguished.
The firefighting unit received a notification at about 7:40 a.m. today that there was an explosion at the “Sakai Chemical Industry” Yumoto plant in Iwaoka-cho, Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, and smoke came out of the plant.
Four male workers were slightly or seriously injured at the plant, including two men in their 60s who suffered serious injuries such as burns all over their bodies, and two men in their 20s and 40s who were slightly injured, all four of whom were conscious.
The factory manufactures zinc powder used in cosmetics and other products, the fire department extinguished the fire for about 3 hours, but the fire is still not completely extinguished, and the fire-fighting operations continue; the police and fire units will investigate the cause of the accident in detail.
