The Northern Song Dynasty was another prosperous and elegant dynasty in the history of China, and its founder was Zhao Kuangyin, the Great Ancestor of the Song Dynasty. There are a number of fascinating stories about the founding of the Northern Song Dynasty, in addition to the Chenqiao Mutiny.
The harbinger of the Double Dragon Pool
Zhao Hongyin (899-956) was the father of the Northern Song emperors Zhao Kuangyin (927-976) and Zhao Guangyi (939-997). One year, when he was not yet prominent, he went to Dujia Zhuang to seek a job. It was snowing heavily, so he stood outside the Zhuang gate to avoid the snow. When one of the bankers saw Zhao Hongyin’s handsome appearance, he invited him to eat with him.
Zhao Hongyin worked in the Du family for a long time, and when the owner saw how diligent he was, he liked him so much that he recruited him as his son-in-law. After the marriage, Zhao Hongyin’s wife Du gave birth to two sons, who later became Song Taizu Zhao Kuangyin and Song Taizong Zhao Guangyi. In front of Du’s house, there was a puddle named “Double Dragon Pond”. Later people guessed that the emperor was born in whose family, I think it is also a meditative arrangement.
During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, the local heroes to claim the kingdom, the war between each other endless. Zhao Kuangyin, Zhao Guangyi’s mother Du to avoid the military disaster, so the two young children in the basket, the burden on the shoulders, picking them to rush to avoid disaster.
Halfway, the sleeping immortal Chen Tuan met the mother and son of the Zhao family and immediately said, “Who says there is no Son of Heaven today, she carries all the sons of Heaven on her shoulders.”
Old monk enlightenment to go north to meet the nobleman
In the early years of the Later Han Dynasty, Zhao Kuangyin traveled everywhere and never found a place where he could settle down. So he temporarily stayed at a temple in Xiangyang. There was an old monk in the temple who was proficient in magic and good at reading palms, and he said to Zhao Kuangyin, “I will send you a generous gift to finance you, and you will meet a nobleman if you go north.” According to the old monk, Zhao Kuangyin went north and joined Guo Wei’s tent in the first year of Qian You (948), and participated in the conquest of Li Shouzhen, the festival envoy of Hezhong, and won many battles.
In the first year of Guangshun (951), Guo Wei became the emperor and established Hou Zhou. Zhao Kuangyin logically became a minister of the latter Zhou, and in the fifth year of Xiande (958), Zhao Kuangyin became a minister of the festival, and replaced Zhang Yongde to be promoted to the post of the Palace of the General Inspection, that is, the commander of the forbidden army.
Zhao Kuangyin also really has a relationship with Buddhism, in the way of achievement of the empire, several times and monks formed an incomprehensible relationship.
A monk dreamed of a golden dragon and met Emperor Taizu
During the Five Dynasties period, a monk planted some vegetables on the roadside to subsidize his livelihood. One day, the monk fell asleep while resting by his vegetable patch and dreamed that a golden dragon had eaten several borders of lettuce. He woke up from his dream just in time to see a big, powerfully built man picking and eating lettuce from his vegetable patch. Seeing his majestic appearance, the monk straightened his clothes and went to invite him over and entertained him attentively.
This great man was Zhao Kuangyin. Before Zhao Kuangyin left, the monk told him what he saw in the dream and said to him, “When you get your ambition in the future, please build a monastery for the old monk.”
After Zhao Kuangyin became the emperor, he sent people to look for the old monk, and fortunately the old monk was still alive. So Zhao Kuangyin decreed to build a monastery and gave it the name of “Pu’an”, and the people in Kyoto called it “Daoist Temple”.
Chenqiao mutiny, the soldiers vowed not to disturb the people
Since the end of the Tang Dynasty, the military conquests around the country, some army soldiers robbed the good people, repeatedly prohibited. When the Chenqiao mutiny had not yet occurred, there was a man in the army named Miao Xun who knew a lot about astrology, and he led the doorkeeper Chu Zhaosu to see another round of sun below the sun for a long time. Zhao Kuangyin and the army generals made a vow that entering the capital city of Kaifeng must not disturb the people or disrupt the market.
In addition, Zhao Kuangyin instructed the generals and soldiers not to disturb the empress and the emperor; not to humiliate the ministers; not to invade and rob the inner treasury of the court and the family property of the scholarly people, and the violators should be beheaded. After the generals swore an oath, Zhao Kuangyin led his troops into the city.
After ascending to the throne, Zhao Kuangyin went on to conquer Wu Yue, Southern Han, Southern Tang and other countries with his troops, ending the fragmentation of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms and starting another prosperous and wealthy dynasty in history.
