Heavy penalties can’t stop China from refusing to serve in the military

In recent years, there have been frequent incidents of young people refusing to serve in the military in China, including one of the most recent cases in which the recruit was severely punished by being included in a serious breach of trust list, losing a number of rights, having his household registration added to the word, not being allowed to leave the country for 2 years, and being heavily fined more than 60,000 RMB.

According to the Shahe conscription office on May 7, the recruit was approved for enlistment in March this year and was returned by the army in April for refusing to perform military service. The punishment he received included a fine of 62,550 RMB, inclusion in the list of serious defaulters, no credit incentives for 3 years, no business for 3 years, no employment as a civil servant, institution staff and state enterprise staff, and notification of his refusal to perform military service by local TV stations and WeChat; his household registration was also annotated with “refusal to perform military service The family registry was also marked with the words “refusal to perform military service” permanently, and they were not allowed to leave the country within 2 years.

This phenomenon has triggered a social conference debate. Mr. Wu, a veteran of a city in Shandong province, said that if he were a young man, he would also refuse to serve in the military.

Mr. Wu, a veteran of a city in Shandong Province: “I definitely also do not want to, we were protecting our country back then, and now you are a soldier why, there is no country to protect ah, now the country has been dominated by individuals, now it is called the sickle cut leeks well, who is willing to let it cut.”

Yao Cheng, a former lieutenant colonel in the Chinese Communist Navy Command, pointed out that there are multiple reasons for refusing to serve in the military.

Yao Cheng, a lieutenant colonel in the former Chinese Communist Navy Command, said, “The military is not a defense of the people, but an enemy of the people, and the corruption in the military has reached a very serious level. The family is not willing to let him go to the death.”

Yao Cheng said that veterans generally bully new recruits, which also discourages young people from becoming soldiers.

Yao Cheng: “often seen on the video veterans beat new recruits, blinded and disabled, the Chinese army has inherited a very bad style is a generation of bullying generation, new recruits to the army, for veterans to wash their pants, wash socks, massage, a little inattention to be beaten, this phenomenon is more common, so one to ten, ten to hundred, really do not want to be a soldier.”

The phenomenon of new recruits being bullied and retaliated against is common in China. Separately this year, young men have also been notified of their refusal to serve in the military.
