Catastrophe? Guiyang night sky “red ghost”

In the early hours of May 9, a rare “red ghost” phenomenon appeared in Guiyang City, Guizhou, with red luminous bodies flashing continuously in the night as if they were beating “red ghosts”.

Modern science claims that “red ghosts” (or “red sprites”) are a special discharge phenomenon in the atmosphere, often occurring over thunderstorm clouds, briefly appearing in dense red flashes. The flashes were discovered in the last century, but have plagued scientists for many years.

However, some netizens cited folk sayings that it is either a precursor to a catastrophe.

The video posted by netizens shows the sudden appearance of vertical red luminous bodies in the black night, usually several at the same time, a flash. Each time it appears in a different location, like a “red ghost” dancing. It is reported that this is the first time in Guiyang. Netizens call it a mysterious lightning.
