Huawei’s Irish Vice President Joe Kelly, 55, Dies in Shenzhen

Huawei’s Irish vice president of international media affairs Joe Kelly died in Shenzhen last weekend at the age of 55, RTE reported Monday (2). The news was reported by a number of local media outlets, including The Irish Independent and The Irish Times, and the exact cause and timing of his death is still unknown.

Huawei reportedly confirmed the incident in a statement. It is with great sadness that we confirm that our beloved colleague and friend Joe Kelly passed away last weekend in Shenzhen, China,” the statement said. As Huawei’s Vice President of International Media Affairs, Joe was an experienced member of the team and was well-respected throughout the company. We will miss him greatly and extend our deepest sympathies to his family. We will do everything we can to help them during this difficult time.” His wife and daughter live in China.

Public records show that Joe Kelly worked at Huawei since 2012. Since the U.S.-China technology war, Kelly has been fighting a public relations battle on behalf of Huawei to counter the U.S. accusations against Huawei.
