In the U.S. presidential election, the votes are being counted, and in the congressional race, Madison Cawthorn, a 25-year-old Republican candidate for Congress from North Carolina, has won, becoming the youngest member of the U.S. House of Representatives in 200 years.
According to CNN, Cawthorn, who turned 25 in August, defeated his Democratic opponent Moe Davis to become the youngest member of Congress since the 19th century, breaking the record of Democratic Congressman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (nicknamed “AOC”) who was 29 years, 2 months and 22 days old.
According to U.S. House of Representatives records, the youngest member of the U.S. House of Representatives in history was William Charles Cole Claiborne of Tennessee, who was elected to the federal House of Representatives in 1797 at the age of 22 and became governor of the Mississippi Territory in 1801 at the age of 26.
He is the owner of a real estate investment company and a motivational speaker with conservative, anti-abortion, pro-gun and hardline immigration positions.
