India: 3532 mutated viruses have been identified and a third wave of outbreaks is inevitable

The Indian government announced Wednesday, local time, that a total of 3,532 worrisome mutant viruses have been identified in 27 states in India, adding that a third wave of the outbreak is inevitable given the current surge in infections, the website reported May 6.

Researchers found that the British variant virus (B.1.1.7) is declining in infectivity in India, while the double mutant variant virus (B.1.617) is increasing.

Given the large number of viruses in transmission, a third phase is inevitable, but it is not clear when it will occur, hopefully gradually,” said Vijay Raghavan, the Indian government’s foremost scientific advisor. Previous infections and vaccines can put adaptive pressure on the virus, forcing the kind of new mutations that try to escape, and we have to be scientifically prepared to deal with that.”

India’s Ministry of Health released data on the outbreak on June 6, showing that the number of new confirmed cases of new crown and new deaths in the country have again broken previous records as the epidemic continues to worsen. Data show that the country’s new confirmed cases 412,262 cases, the cumulative number of confirmed cases up to 21077410 cases; new deaths 3980 cases, cumulative deaths 230,168 cases. The number of new confirmed cases in India on a single day exceeded 400,000 for the first time on May 1; as of the 6th, the number has exceeded 300,000 cases for 15 consecutive days.
