Who will take over? White House press secretary revealed next year will resign

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki made headlines on Thursday (6). She announced that she plans to leave her current position “within a year or a year from now.

Psaki appeared on CNN Tonight on Thursday to reiterate her timetable for leaving and said it was always planned.

In the interview, Psaki said, “I think in a year or so from now, it’s going to be somebody else doing the job.” Psaki said she wants to spend more time with her children.

“I don’t want to miss any moments with them,” said Psaki, who has a 5-year-old and 3-year-old. I don’t want to miss anything, and I’m always aware of that.”

“It’s a great job”, Psaki said, “but I also never thought I’d be here, it’s going to be tough, and I love my kids so much”.

Psaki revealed that when she joined the Biden administration, she had discussed taking the position only temporarily and that when she felt it was time to leave, she would do so.

“I’ve also been honored to serve not only this president, but a past president,” Psaki said, adding that at some point in the future, it is time for someone else to take on these jobs and roles and own this historic position. Part of what she hopes to do in her job is to help build that relationship, to give people opportunities and to give new people some opportunities.

Psaki is a communications veteran who worked on former President Barack Obama’s first campaign in 2008. Once in office, Obama served as deputy press secretary on his White House communications team and was promoted to deputy communications director in 2009.

Pusacki left the White House in 2011 to join a public relations firm before returning to the Obama campaign in 2012, and in 2013, she served as a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State. She eventually returned to the White House in 2015 as director of communications until the end of Obama’s term.

Psaki had a long association with Biden during the Obama administration. Nonetheless, Psaki’s selection as press secretary for the new administration came as a major surprise at the time. Now, she has announced that she will leave next year, which is even more unexpected.
