In April, Xu Liang, a well-known Vietnam War veteran, was arrested by people claiming to be public security officers when he went to pay respects to his comrades in Yunnan Province, sparking concern among veterans’ groups. on May 6, a veterans’ representative drafted a “proposal” on the kidnapping of Xu Liang’s related personnel to surrender to the authorities, hoping that the letter would attract the attention of the relevant departments. The veterans who drafted the “proposal” believe that the interception of petitions and martyr worship is unacceptable, this practice does not respect the military and martyrs, making the military community cold.
Recently, veterans’ representative Geng Guoping posted a “Proposal” on social media calling for those involved in the Xu Liang case to surrender. The company’s main goal is to provide a comprehensive range of products and services to the public.
Xu Liang, 60, is a Vietnam War veteran whose song “Bloodstained Elegance” was sung throughout China. The song has been banned by the Chinese Communist Party in tribute to those who died in the June 4 Incident in 1989, and has since become a mandatory song at the June 4 Candlelight Vigil in Hong Kong’s Victoria Park.
According to the Epoch Times, veteran Geng Guoping drafted a proposal to urge those involved in the Xu Liang case to surrender, but because he cannot speak Mandarin, his brother, Mr. Geng, also a Vietnam War veteran, spoke on his behalf.
Mr. Geng revealed, “Our comrades and Xu Liang’s relatives jointly issued a “search notice” inside the comrades group. The company is a veteran of the Vietnam War, a first-class combat hero and a disabled soldier, who was detained by a group of self-proclaimed Beijing public security officers in April, around the 14th, when he went to pay respect to his comrades in Ma Li Po, Wenshan. The information we obtained ourselves can also judge this matter as real.”

He revealed that “the gang of law enforcement is extremely irregular, but also did not show the “Executive Certificate”, but also did not show the “detention notice”, so it, 20 days later Xu Liang no news. The family is very anxious, issued a “search notice”, we have the responsibility to help him veterans.”
As a result of the veterans’ collective voice, things have progressed. Mr. Geng revealed, “So we wrote an article urging the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs to verify and implement whether or not it was the Beijing Public Security Bureau that did it. Why should a first-class combat hero, a disabled 60-year-old veteran, be put in jail? After we sent out the article yesterday morning, we were informed through our own channels that Xu Liang was released yesterday afternoon and was set free. But we couldn’t get through to Xu Liang’s phone and no one answered.”
Mr. Geng believes that the “hijacking” of Xu Liang’s people if not the public security department, then these people are suspected of impersonating a police officer and committing illegal detention; if it is the public security department, then the time and place of arrest is easy to misunderstand.
April 14 is the day the veterans agreed to pay respects to their fallen comrades. Mr. Geng pointed out that “intercepting the petition and intercepting the worship of martyrs, this wind should not grow! Then who wants to be a soldier? Who will be a martyr? What do the families of the martyrs think? So this is not Xu Liang’s fate, but the fate of the nation’s 72 million veterans, and then zoom in on the ultimate fate of our nation, a society that does not respect the military is bound to end in tragedy. So I can’t look down, many of us are willing to accompany Xu Liang to jail!”
Xu Liang was a student at the Xi’an Conservatory of Music, and after graduating in 1986, he enlisted in the army and immediately went to the front line of the Sino-Vietnamese border with the title of company deputy instructor to participate in the battle of Laoshan, where he was hit by a bullet from the Vietcong in the left aorta of his leg and became disabled after his leg was amputated, and after the war he was awarded the first class combat hero. 1987 CCTV Spring Festival Gala, Xu Liang in a wheelchair wearing a military uniform, wearing a medal, and singing “Blood-stained Style” with the female singer Wang Hong, became a national hero. He became a household name throughout the country when he sang “Bloodstained Style” with singer Wang Hong. Afterwards, he was invited to give speeches and sing in various places, and became a big hit.
However, in recent years, the Chinese Communist authorities have continued to cut the treatment of veteran groups, while many promises have not been fulfilled, leading to frequent incidents of veterans defending their rights.
In October 2018, Xu Liang went to the State Council’s Ministry of Veterans Affairs in an incident that sparked an uproar. Even household names who are combat heroes are defending their rights, and the situation of other veterans can be imagined. The video shows Xu Liang being pushed by others in a wheelchair and being stopped by public security officers on the road.
Apple Daily quoted sources as saying that on that day Xu Liang entered the Ministry of Veterans Affairs to register and fill out forms, and shone a certificate of first-class merit and relevant documents. Because of Xu Liang’s fame, the deputy chief of the Beijing Public Security Bureau’s Public Security Bureau rushed to the scene and personally “received” Xu Liang.
The newspaper reported that the first-class combat hero joined the veterans’ petition, cheering up China’s human rights veterans. Some foreign media inquired with the veterans in Beijing and confirmed that the incident was true. A veteran who pushed Xu Liang to petition with him said, “I pushed him into the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, and it’s true. He also filled out the form to register, and he also has a claim.”
Xu Liang, who is reportedly originally from Beijing and now lives in Xi’an, was specifically going to Beijing to express his demands in October 2018, the veteran said, “He didn’t go to Beijing on a whim to table his demands, no veteran would suddenly decide.”
