U.S. De-Lists East Turkestan Islamic Movement as a Terrorist Organization

The U.S. government announces that it will no longer list the East Turkestan Islamic Movement as a terrorist organization.

The U.S. Department of State published a notice in the Federal Register on November 5 that reads, “The East Turkestan Islamic Movement is no longer listed as a terrorist organization.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in the notice that the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM) is being removed from the list of “terrorist organizations” under the authority of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) 212(a)(B)(II), as amended.

According to Wikipedia, the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM) was listed as a terrorist organization by the United States and other countries after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
