Breaking: All three other officers in Floyd case indicted by grand jury

A federal grand jury in Minnesota voted Friday, May 7, to also indict three other former police officers involved in the Floyd case.

The indictment, obtained by FoxNews.com, shows that the grand jury will indict officers Derek Chauvi, Thomas Lane, J. Kueng and Tou Thao on three counts. Chauvi, Kueng and Tou Thao are charged with violating Floyd’s right to be free from “unreasonable seizure and excessive law enforcement. All four officers were charged with “failure to provide immediate medical care to Floyd.

Ryan, Quinn and Duto were reportedly tried by videotape in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis. But Jovin was not in court at the time.

On April 20, a federal jury has found Jovan guilty of three counts of Floyd’s murder, including general homicide, second-degree manslaughter and third-degree murder. Under U.S. law, Jovin faces a maximum of 75 years in prison, and his final sentencing date is June 25.

And on May 4, Jovin’s attorney, Eric Nelson, filed a motion for a new trial. The motion argues that the jury was interviewed by the media without being sequestered, and that the prosecutor’s office acted improperly in handling the case, thus seeking the court to give Jovin a fair trial.

Briefing on the Floyd Case

On May 25, 2020, Floyd was taken into custody for allegedly using a counterfeit $20 bill at a nearby Cup Foods food store, but he refused to be placed in the back seat of a patrol car by police officers. After being subdued by Jovin and two other officers, Floyd died.

Although Jovin was accused of pressing on Floyd’s neck causing him to die without being able to breathe, explosive video later showed that Jovin was actually kneeling on his shoulder blades, not his neck. The medical examiner’s report showed that Floyd had a large amount of drugs in his system, so it was suspected that he died of a “drug overdose”.

The day after the incident, Jovin was fired along with three other officers involved in Floyd’s arrest.
