The U.S. mainstream media’s poor relationship with former President Donald Trump has cost him the White House, as expected, but at a terrible cost to itself. A survey by The Rasmussen Report found that CNN evaporated a large number of viewers between 2017 and 2021.
The survey found that about 25 percent of U.S. voters view CNN as their primary news source; cross-referenced to May 2021 to May 2017, that number dropped by 22 percent.
This phenomenon is particularly notable among Republicans and independent voters. During the same period, the percentage of Republicans who regularly watch CNN dropped steeply from 40 percent to just 9 percent; and the percentage of independent voters who regularly watch CNN dropped from 47 percent to 21 percent.
Rasmussen reported: “The biggest losers in last year’s election may not be political candidates. Since former President Trump left office in January, CNN’s ratings have plummeted.”
One of the reasons for CNN’s disastrous drop in ratings has to do with Trump’s repeated attacks on the outlet for providing “fake news. Project Veritas, a right-wing investigative group, has uncovered that CNN executives directed fake news to attack Trump. The National Pulse also revealed that the media outlet received favors in exchange for producing “favorable reporting” on the Chinese Communist Party.
CNN has been unfaithful to then-presidential candidate Donald Trump (right) since the 2016 U.S. presidential election, and the two sides have traded barbs several times since Trump took office.
