The French Senate passed the resolution in support of Taiwan’s participation in international organizations by 304 votes, the first time ever that the French parliament has passed a resolution in support of Taiwan.

The French Senate held a meeting on Thursday evening (6) local time and overwhelmingly passed the resolution “Taiwan’s participation in the work of international organizations” without any objection. Recently, following the G7 Foreign Ministers’ communiqué supporting Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the WHO, the French Parliament also passed a resolution supporting Taiwan’s participation in international organizations for the first time in its history. The French Senate’s first resolution in support of Taiwan was considered and voted on by the entire House on the evening of the 6th, resulting in 304 votes for and 0 votes against the resolution, with 19 members abstaining from voting.

As the resolution was voted on, there were no negative votes, showing that French senators overwhelmingly believe that Taiwan’s participation in international organizations will be beneficial to the well-being of the international community; even Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Secretary of State of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reiterated his support for Taiwan’s position on behalf of the French government. Many French parliamentarians also took the initiative to tweet the good news.
