Cultural Revolution controversy triggers “brickbats” from left to right of the Red Generation

In accordance with Xi Jinping’s theory of “two 30-year periods without negation,” the “Brief History of the Communist Party of China” prepared and published in February this year combines the Cultural Revolution with the first 17 years of Mao’s rule and turns the “cake” over: “The 27 years from the founding of New China to the end of the Cultural Revolution were the 27 years of the Party’s hard work, indignation and active exploration to achieve great achievements in socialist revolution and construction. The 27 years between the founding of the New China and the end of the Cultural Revolution were the 27 years in which the Party led the people of all nationalities to struggle hard, to be indignant, to explore actively, and to make great achievements in socialist revolution and construction.” The denial of the Cultural Revolution and the vindication of the wrongdoings created by Mao have been the hallmarks of reform and opening up, and Bao Tong once said, “Reform is to correct mistakes, to correct Mao’s mistakes.” Now, like playing mahjong, one hand pushed a table of tiles into the middle of the table, sparingly reshuffled, can not cause a strong reaction of public opinion?

In the intense political atmosphere of the centennial of the founding of the party, some people feel breathless, some feel unusually excited. Tao Siliang, the daughter of Tao Casting, who was the number three figure in the Cultural Revolution and was beaten down by Mao Zedong and died, had mixed emotions; in the late 1980s she switched from medicine to politics and became deputy director of the Sixth Bureau of the United Front Work Department (Bureau of Intellectuals Outside the Party). She has paid a visit to Liang Shuming with a small gift; she has used her 20 years of experience as a doctor to “talk therapy” to Fang Li Zhi, who was unruly and wanted to change his flag. In February this year, she stayed in Hainan and wrote a reminiscent article, which immediately overwhelmed the praise of Maoist professor Zhang Hongliang for the 100-year “Brief History”.

The title of the article, “A Smile in Meizhou”, Meizhou is Ye Jianying’s hometown, the content is to record that in May 2007, Ye’s children invited more than 130 descendants of the Founding Fathers, generals and former provincial and ministerial cadres to Meizhou to participate in the 110th anniversary of Marshal Ye’s birth. Tao Siliang called it “an unprecedented gathering,” a marshal’s son said “that is, the Ye family can do, others who can not!”

Ye Jianying was a member of the “stage faction” that was not defeated by Mao during the Cultural Revolution, and after Mao’s death he helped Hua Guofeng destroy the “Gang of Four” in one fell swoop, changing Chinese history. Tao Siliang described the Ye family as “a family of several hundred people in five generations. Ye Xuanping and Zou Jiahua are national leaders; Ye Xuanning is a divine dragon, even President Jiang has jokingly called him ‘boss’; Ye Xiangzhen is a famous film director; Ye Xuanji and Ye Xuanlian …… are all extraordinary.”

Then look at the person: “Mao Yuanxin came; Liu Yuan, Deng Lin and I, on behalf of ‘Liu Deng Tao’ came; ‘Peng Luo Lu Yang’ children also came. Lin Xiaolin came (Lin Doudou was also invited but did not come). The sons of Marshal Liu Bo Cheng, General Su Yu and General Xiao Ke, who were wrongly branded as ‘dogmatic’ in 1958, also came. The Hu, Zhao and Hua families were all invited to send their offspring. Xiang Zhen’s ex-husband, the great piano virtuoso Liu Shi Kun, was also invited to come.” The Chinese Communist Party princeling family came almost, only missing the children of the Northwest Gang, I do not know if they are flawless, or the mountains are blocked. There is also a lack of Hu Wen’s children, because they do not belong to the red family, can only be called the “second generation of officials”.

Almost all of those who came know each other, either classmates, or friends and relatives. The only theme of the gathering was to “forget the grudge”, to forget the grudge of the Cultural Revolution.

Chinese people, whether they are officials, businessmen, those with swords, those holding guns, scholars and celebrities, or those working part-time, will feel like “cannon fodder” when they see this show.

Changing the characterization of the storm

After Tao Siliang sent the article to her WeChat circle of friends, the response was huge, but of course, her circle of friends had few mortals, and the general public could only see it by forwarding it. Zhang Jiuxing, daughter of Zhang Dingcheng, posted an article criticizing Tao’s perspective: the Communist Party is to eliminate the emperor, the princess and these things. Look at the “one smile article” is the princess vision. She enclosed herself in a small circle of “red aristocrats” to fatten herself up. She went to Tiananmen Square on October 1, 1966, and complained in front of Mao Zedong about the backwardness of the army’s Cultural Revolution, which made Lin Biao feel the pressure and quickly issued the “urgent instructions on the Cultural Revolution in the army colleges and universities”, a document that gave backing to the rebels for the first time in the form of policy. The author was the main force of the rebel faction that seized the leadership of the General Secretary. Zhang Jiuzhu’s article had already uncovered the old underbelly of the Cultural Revolution.

Ma Xiaoli and Luo Doudou, who advocated rethinking the Cultural Revolution, both wrote private letters to Tao Siliang. Ma Xiaoli, once Tao’s colleague in the United Front Work Department, divorced Lin Yanzhi, son of Lin Feng, because of her different stance on the 1989 pro-democracy movement. She thinks some people will always live in the time when they were at their best, and they will never reflect seriously! If Mao Yuanxin and Li Ne could take the lead to reflect a little, it would be a good education for the general public who believe in Mao. They will always linger in the obscenity of imperial power and cannot extricate themselves. She also criticized Tao Si Liang: Liang Liang’s confusion and inner entanglement are on the surface, she always wants to reconcile the enmity of the Red Two with her identity as a mason, and always wants to turn the dry grievances into silk and the sword into a plow. In fact, different experiences before and after the Cultural Revolution, has long been divided, each end.

As for the eight or nine when contacting the seven admirals to write a joint letter, opposed to the shooting of Luo dot dot, in the WeChat group issued a text, that the reflection on the father should reflect on 1921, this year is exactly one hundred years.

The circle of friends sent out another reply letter from Tao Siliang to Ma Xiaoli, who said: I am idle and stoned on a stinker. My right-wing friends are determined to topple a wall, and I am a wall repairer. That’s probably the root of my “second generation Red” complex in this article. But to say that I am “powerful” and “superior” is not in line with my values, otherwise I would not be doing charity work for 30 years. I threw out this article, I did not expect to hit myself full of bags, in addition to criticism from the right, but also from the left invective, saying that I “always anti-M”, “Mao Shanying’s sacrifice is a great loss to the Chinese people! Otherwise it would not have been your turn to be a bunch of turtle grandsons to be lawless!”

Under the attack from the left and right, Tao Siliang deleted his article. An article not only created a storm among the second generation of Reds, the Internet was almost a cursing. You can imagine how much of a storm is being stirred up by “A Brief History” crediting Mao’s ten-year Cultural Revolution to Mao, even if what is now revealed is just a ground fire, how can the will of the people be desecrated!
