Germany last year seized nearly four million pieces of counterfeit goods, nearly 70% from China

According to German Federal Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD), German customs seized a large number of counterfeit products and drugs despite the outbreak of the Chinese Communist virus (COVID-19) epidemic last year.

According to the latest customs statistics submitted, German customs seized approximately 3.68 million counterfeit products worth nearly 239 million euros in 2020. While there was a decrease in the number of counterfeit products, there was a significant increase in the value.

More than half (51.2%) of the seized counterfeit goods came from mainland China, followed by Hong Kong (17.7%) and Turkey (12.5%). The industry association APM said customs can only “control a certain percentage of counterfeit deliveries,” but many individual shipments are now ordered on the Internet, a channel that has a large number of leakages of counterfeit goods.

In addition, German customs seized 15 tons of drugs last year, a record amount. According to the report, some 9.4 tons of cocaine, more than 4.9 tons of marijuana and other drugs, and 1.1 million pills, mainly ecstasy, were seized.

As already announced by the German Finance Ministry at the beginning of February, last year the Financial Supervisory Authority for Black Workers (FKS) initiated more than 100,000 criminal proceedings and more than 57,000 proceedings for administrative violations. the FKS found losses totaling about 816 million euros, 61 million euros more than the previous year.
