Swiss diplomat dies in Iran in bizarre circumstances.
A senior diplomat at the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, Iran, was found dead after falling from the high-rise building where she lived on Tuesday (May 4). The IRNA report quoted local emergency services as saying it was not a case of suicide.
The BBC reported that Mojtaba Khaledi, a spokesman for the local emergency services, told the Mehr news agency that the 51-year-old woman was the embassy’s first secretary, but did not give her name. He said police in the Kamraniya region immediately went to call paramedics, but the diplomat had been “dead for some time.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry has confirmed the death of a diplomat. A spokesman for the country’s foreign ministry said the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs was shocked by the tragic death of the senior employee “and expresses its deepest condolences to her family.” The ministry added that they have contacted Iranian authorities in this regard. The Iranian Foreign Ministry also expressed condolences and said it has launched an investigation into the case.
Switzerland has represented U.S. diplomatic interests in Iran since the U.S. severed diplomatic ties with the country after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
