Zuckerberg is anxious: ask iOS users to agree to be tracked by FaceBook

Apple has officially released iOS 14.5, which requires app developers to obtain user consent before tracking users. Despite Facebook’s objections, it has been forced to comply, and has offered a “free” banner.

In a pop-up notice, Facebook explained that iOS 14.5 requires developers to obtain user consent to track some device data to improve ad delivery, and that users would benefit from this data collection in three ways, the second of which is to “help keep Instagram/Facebook free”. However, there is no indication that Facebook plans to offer a paid version of the app.

Facebook says the pop-up notification will be pushed in the Instagram and Facebook apps in the next few days or weeks, so users may not see it yet.
