President Tsai Ing-wen of the Republic of China said on May 4 that the government’s information security is national security strategy is working well, and will advance to the “information security is national security 2.0” strategy, and also plans to establish a digital development ministry to build an information security system and industry chain trusted by the world.
On the 4th, Tsai Ing-wen met with the “2021 GiCS 1st Search for Women in Information Security Team” and said that this year the Ministry of Science and Technology held the 1st 2021 GiCS (Girls in CyberSecurity) Search for Women in Information Security Competition, which is a very meaningful event.
She mentioned that last November she met with Taiwan’s cyber security team and high school cyber security clubs, and at that time, some students asked about the gender ratio in cyber security, and she replied: How can women not be suitable for cyber security? Therefore, she would like to thank the Ministry of Science and Technology for organizing the event, and believes that through the competition and more institutional resources and support, more women can be motivated to have more in-depth and professional development in the field of information security and technology.

“There are already very many organizations for women in science and technology in Taiwan,” she noted, adding that there are also many transnational networks of women in science and technology and related international conferences internationally. She believes that all the award-winning students will be an important force in the future; no matter which field they enter, they will be brave enough to break through the established framework and bring new ideas to promote more important technological development.
Ms. Tsai mentioned that in the “Information Security Challenge” competition, self-driving cars were used in combination with VR to design the levels, which is also a key development direction of the government at present. The winning students not only have the knowledge of information security, but also have the practical skills to solve the problem and break through the barrier, which is really not easy.

She said that another group of “creative thinking competition” encourages students from non-information security-related departments to participate, so that they can understand and observe the information security problems in their lives and think about solutions together. “We also encourage students to develop different expertise through various cross-disciplinary studies, which will be very helpful in the future, whether for career planning or promoting professional field development.”
“Since her last term, ‘capital security is national security’ has been an important belief of the ruling team.” Tsai pointed out that as the world moves into the Internet of Things and 5G era, the government will advance its “Information Security is National Security 2.0” strategy, planning to establish a new “Ministry of Digital Development” to coordinate information, information security, network, communications and communications to enhance Taiwan’s overall digital national power.

She said that the female Jiesi event is an important milestone for the cultivation of talents to take root downward, and each of the winning students is a precious digital seed.
