The Gateway Pundit reported on May 3 that Dave Hunt, former Oregon Democratic House Speaker and current board member of Clackamas Community College, was arrested April 28 at the Ramada Inn in Southeast Portland ( Ramada Inn in Southeast Portland, was arrested and cited by two Portland police officers.
According to the Portland Tribune, the Portland Police Bureau’s Human Trafficking Unit used a known human trafficking website to post fake ads as bait, and as a result, Hunt and seven other men contacted police and arranged payment for the sex trade. Hunter and the seven others are currently charged with commercial sexual solicitation.
As a legislator, Hunter was one of many sponsors of a 2007 bill that criminalized sex trafficking, and in 2011, he also voted for Act 2714, which created the crime of commercial sexual solicitation, the crime for which he was arrested and cited. Hunt declined to comment when asked by Portland media about the charges.
Hunter’s attorney told reporters, “Mr. Hunter denies the charges, but respects the criminal justice process and will not say more until he has an opportunity to appear in court.” There is no possible court date for Hunter’s appearance.
On Monday, Clackamas Community College announced Hunter’s leave of absence from its parenting committee.
Under Oregon law, commercial solicitation is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to 364 days in jail, a fine of up to $6,250, or both.
