“Voice For Seniors held a rally with New York State Assemblyman Ron Kim in front of the federal courthouse in New York on March 3. Standing in front of the families of nursing home residents who lost their lives to the epidemic, Kim called on New York State Attorney General Letitia James to investigate previous media reports that Governor Cuomo’s office had covered up data on the deaths of nursing home residents.

The New York Times (NYT) has reported that senior staffers in Cuomo’s office covered up data on nursing home residents’ deaths from the epidemic to a far greater extent than previously known. The New York Times reports that senior aides in Cuomo’s office have continued to hide the data on nursing home deaths, despite repeated attempts by state health department officials to release the data. To date, more than 15,500 nursing home residents have died from COVID-19 (the Chinese Communist virus).
The state attorney general’s office also found misuse of state resources during Cuomo’s promotion of his new book, but has not yet investigated the state’s handling of nursing homes during the outbreak. Family members of nursing home residents who participated in the rally called on Jen Lakha to follow up on the state’s investigation into the cover-up of data in addition to the existing cases of sexual harassment allegations and bullying investigations.
“We represent the 15,000 seniors who have lost their lives in New York,” said Vivian Rivera Zayas, a representative of Speak Up for Seniors, whose mother died of an epidemic at a Long Island nursing home. A year later, there are investigations into the governor’s new book and sexual harassment allegations, which are serious issues, but again, a year later, we still don’t know the impact of the state’s nursing home policies during the peak of the epidemic.”
Kim Tui-Shi said the purpose of today’s rally is to remind everyone that the current state government did commit a serious crime, that the state is lying to the people and that the governor must be held accountable for his decisions, “There may be many people who say it’s not the governor’s fault, that it can happen to anyone, but we can hold the White House accountable and we can certainly hold the governors accountable, not to mention that the New York State The governor set the (nursing home) policy on his own, separate from the federal government. In fact, the CDC recommended last year that he should implement a different policy. For example, other states have banned infected patients from nursing homes.”
